APEX Insight: Can flight attendant wearables eliminate points of friction in the passenger journey? Having recently expanded its Wi-Fi-enabled cabin management application to smartwatches, Arconics seems to think so.

Service at your fingertips? Well, almost. Aircraft software company Arconics is now bringing its Wi-Fi-enabled cabin management application to smartwatches, thereby allowing flight attendants to manage requests while keeping time on flight duration. Indeed, several aerospace companies are seeking out ways to provide a smoother end-to-end experience, but few are proposing flight attendant wearables as a remedy to points of friction in the in-flight service experience.

“Smartwatches will have a place in aviation in the near future.” – Ultan O Brien, Arconics

Announced at this year’s APEX EXPO, Arconics’ fully integrated app suite – accessible on a variety of devices – promises to connect passengers, flight attendants and pilots to ensure increased efficiency, responsiveness and ease.

The company imagines a future where the sound of flight attendant chimes will no longer be heard cabin-wide. Instead, requests will be channeled wirelessly from passenger to crew without disturbing other flyers. “We believe smartwatches will have a place in aviation in the near future,” says Ultan O Brien, VP Sales, Arconics. “Arconics’ vision of a seamless, end-to-end aviation experience requires adoption of all new technologies … We expect flight attendant wearables will be common in business-class cabins quite soon and in all aircraft in the near future.”
