APEX Insight: For makers of portable IFE solutions demonstrating compatibility with a variety of connectivity providers is important. This successful activation with TCS shows that Bluebox’s Hybrid software platform plays nice with Rockwell Collins connectivity kit.

In April, Bluebox Aviation System’s portable in-flight entertainment (IFE) solution, Bluebox Ai, was selected by TCS World Travel, a leading private jet tour operator, to deliver entertainment and curated educational content, via preloaded Bluebox iPads given to guests on its luxury private jet journeys.

TCS subsequently deployed Bluebox-configured iPads as the primary IFE system on its three Boeing 757 aircraft, with the potential to use some of the devices on its seasonal charter operation as well. The first of the 757s, a stunning, all-black Four Seasons private jet, was recently outfitted with Rockwell Collins IFE streaming kit and CabinConnect Internet using Inmarsat’s GX Aviation service.

“When we were selected by TCS World Travel to be their primary IFE system provider, we were confident we could be part of their connectivity roadmap, and are thrilled to prove the flexibility of Bluebox IFE with this deployment,” said David Brown, Bluebox’s business development director.

And indeed, with a simple iPad software upgrade to Bluebox Hybrid, the connected version of Bluebox Ai, TCS is now offering Four Seasons jet passengers fast and reliable Internet browsing, preloaded early window content and other entertainment features directly on the TCS/Bluebox Hybrid iPads.

“We provide our guests with unique, highly personalized journeys around the world, and with Internet connectivity now installed on one of our aircraft, we’re able to do even more to enrich their experience while in the air,” added Shelley Cline, president, TCS World Travel. “This goes beyond keeping our guests entertained or connected, but allows us to offer innovative ways to educate them about their next destination, such as live presentations from travel experts broadcast to our Bluebox Hybrid iPads.”

Internet connectivity on the Four Seasons jet went live in August. Bluebox has confirmed that the Hybrid software upgrade has been applied to all of TCS’s Bluebox iPads, so iPads across the remaining fleet are also web-ready for when the time comes.
