APEX Insight: With the EU’s GDPR legislation coming into effect next month, Vision-Box has obtained Ryerson University’s Privacy by Design certification. The company said travelers’ personal biometric and biographic data will be managed by a highly secure software platform with minimized risk of data breaches.

Personal data security is a hot topic these days. Cambridge Analytica’s use of Facebook private user profile data during the United Kingdom’s European Union referendum and the United States presidential election in 2016 has been headline news in the past month.

Vision-Box has announced that Orchestra, its passenger flow and identity management platform used by airports and national border control agencies, obtained Privacy by Design certification on April 4 from the Privacy by Design Centre for Excellence at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.  The company said that the certification ensures that it will be in compliance with privacy legislations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on May 25.

In a written statement, Vision-Box said that Ryerson University’s certification demonstrates the platform’s capability to “comply, natively, with any data protection framework in the world, particularly GDPR.” The company added that this means travelers’ personal biometric and biographic data will be managed with a highly secure software platform that minimizes the risk of leaks.
