Health and safety considerations and revenue-generating opportunities, especially through advertising, are the focus of Inflight Dublin’s upgraded web app.

Inflight Dublin has revealed an upgraded passenger web app for its Everhub wireless IFE system. The upgrade was spurred by the ever-present need to support new hygiene and safety protocols relating to COVID-19, and the company said that health and safety briefings can be fully digitized, reducing risks by eliminating unnecessary touchpoints on board.

The premise of the upgrade is partly to inform and communicate COVID-19 related messages to passengers in flight. Everhub also includes support for pre-recorded announcements in any language, certified embedded safety cards and hygiene guidance videos for passengers. The solution also supports automated preflight temperature screening of passengers.

“We received feedback with common themes and requests, from continuous communication with clients and prospects, which contributed to the development of the upgraded web app,” Jane Boland, Inflight Dublin’s marketing executive, told APEX Media.

The revamped app now features a smooth new layout with switchable light and dark themes, and the user interface can be configured to align with the airline’s branding. Inflight Dublin said that by employing ‘Material User Interface’ and ‘Progressive Web App’ features, “the user interface appears as a native application without requiring app/SDK installations on the passenger’s device.”

To help cash-strapped airlines boost ancillary revenue, the app supports banner ads, pre-roll video ads and interstitial ads (adverts displayed before or after an expected content page) which can appear on a timed or pop-up basis. The system can also be remotely accessed, allowing airlines to enable or disable entertainment, advertising and shopping catalogue features.

The web app is integrated with Everhub’s cloud-hosted Control Centre, which provides back-office capabilities at no additional cost to the airline, enabling Everhub servers to be configured, operationally tracked and updated as required. Airline-specific content such as marketing campaigns, airline news, service bulletins and destination information can be uploaded remotely. The app also includes Inflight Dublin’s data analytics platform, IFD Insights, helping airlines monitor content usage trends, advertising reports and survey feedback.

“The upgraded passenger web application enhances our established Everhub product, which combines a flexible hardware platform with software, content and revenue-generating services,” said David Miller, Inflight Dublin’s CTO. “This provides airlines with a one-stop-shop solution which can be deployed on board in a matter of weeks”.

All of this is available as part of Inflight Dublin’s 6-month free trial of Everhub, an initiative intended to assist airlines in pausing content and integration costs, by offering a one supplier approach for all IFE hardware and software requirements.
