Following last year’s launch of Travel Well with Yoga, a series of in-flight meditation and yoga videos, Cathay is expanding its partnership with Pure Group with the opening of The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga.

Travelers can now practice yoga and meditation in a designated room at Cathay Pacific’s The Pier lounge at Hong Kong International Airport. The lounge is open to Cathay Pacific’s diamond, gold and silver Marco Polo Club members, as well as Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon’s first and business-class passengers.

Designed in partnership with Hong Kong lifestyle brand The Pure Group, The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga is a 700-square-foot area divided into two zones. The Body Sanctuary features guided videos led by Pure Yoga teachers, a secluded space for self-practice and a seated stretching area. The exercises are designed to improve circulation, enhance joint mobility and promote relaxation. The Mind Sanctuary is where travelers can listen to guided meditation sessions narrated by Pure Yoga’s teachers, or practice Trataka meditation by staring at graphics on the wall. These practices help to improve focus, memory and visualization skills.

“Wellness is becoming increasingly important to our customers,” said Vivian Lo, general manager, Customer Experience and Design at Cathay Pacific. “The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga in our Pier business-class lounge is the perfect place to relax before a flight.” The Sanctuary by Pure Yoga is the latest collaboration between Cathay Pacific and Pure Group, following the January 2018 launch of Travel Well with Yoga, a series of in-flight meditation and yoga videos.

Promoting wellness, both at the airport and in flight, has become a focus for several companies in the aviation industry. Denver International, Vancouver International, Frankfurt and San Francisco International are among the airports that have set aside space for travelers to practice yoga.

PXCom, Charlotte Dodson TV and SkyLights launched in-flight entertainment channel TravelWell at APEX EXPO last September. The content includes guided meditation, nutrition advice and exercises that can be consumed using SkyLights’ AlloSky VR headset.

Singapore Airlines partnered with Canyon Ranch to provide healthy menu options, as well as videos offering sleep advice and instructions for in-seat exercises, for passengers on ultra-long-range (ULR) flights. Panasonic Avionics unveiled a wellness suite for (ULR) aircraft, featuring personalized audio, optimized lighting and a health app, at last year’s APEX EXPO.
