After partnering with service providers to showcase the power of connected aviation at both the NBAA-BACE 2022 in Orlando, FL, and then again at the recently-concluded APEX/IFSA EXPO in Long Beach, SmartSky Networks announced the availability of its air-to-ground (ATG) connectivity service offerings for the Cessna Citation X series aircraft last week as well.
The move follows the recent issuance of a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the aircraft and highlights SmartSky’s plans to make its ATG connectivity available on over 7,000 business jets and turboprop aircraft across 14 aircraft models manufactured by Textron Aviation.
Textron Aviation Service Centers are part of SmartSky’s ever-expanding network of connectivity solution providers with plans to begin installations later this year at the 11 Textron Aviation Service Centers in the United States.
“Following turbulent times during the Coronavirus pandemic, we are proud to be part of an industry that is overcoming numerous challenges to rebuild passengers’ trust in travel,” SmartSky Networks CEO, David Helfgott, told APEX Media.
“Our technology enables travelers, pilots and crews to stay up-to-date and connected with what matters most while at 30,000 feet. From social media posting to finishing an important work item, our unique air-to-ground (ATG) network allows customers to stay in touch with their family, friends and colleagues,” explained Helfgott. “And importantly our connectivity and Aviation Data as a Service (ADaaS) platform, Skytelligence, are securely bridging the gap in communication between pilots, airport operations, and weather providers.”
Looking to expand beyond the Citation X series, the STCs are anticipated to include the Cessna Citation Excel 560 series, the Beechcraft King Air B200/250/300/350 series, and additional Textron Aviation models like the Cessna Citation Sovereign.
The STC for the Citation X was recently completed in Kinston, North Carolina, by flyExclusive, a large operator of Textron Aviation aircraft, and the engineering team at Liberty Partners. This Textron Aviation owned STC, added Helfgott, enables the more than 300 Cessna Citation X series aircraft to now take full advantage of SmartSky’s nationwide ATG network.
