Iberia Adding Premium Economy to Long-Haul Fleet in 2017

Iberia has announced that it will add new premium economy seats to 37 of its long-haul aircraft as of next summer. The seats will be wider than the current 19-inch standard economy-class versions and will offer 37 inches of seat pitch. Premium economy passengers will be able to recline 40 percent further than those in standard economy, and the seats will come equipped with larger in-flight entertainment seatback screens. The redesigned cabin will be incrementally retrofitted to eight Airbus A330-300s and 13 A340-600s. In addition, Iberia’s 16 upcoming A350-900 aircraft will be linefit with the new seat when they are delivered in 2018.

DOT Delay on Norwegian Approval Is Affecting Long-Haul Planning, Says JetBlue

JetBlue has called on the US government to intervene in a dispute over Norwegian Air International’s (NAI) application to begin transatlantic flights to the United States. In a letter to the Department of Transportation (DOT), the New York-based carrier said that while it took no position on the merits of NAI’s application, the delay in granting final approval to fly to the US means its own European route expansion plans could be curbed. NAI’s application has provoked criticism from US carriers and trade unions, which argue that granting a license to Norwegian Air Shuttle’s Irish subsidiary would cut jobs, decrease wages and undermine labor standards.

Sunny With a Chance of Cheap Flights: Google Flights Adds Airfare Forecasts

In an effort to help travelers know whether they’re picking the best time to book a ticket, Google has added an airfare predictions feature to its Google Flights metasearch tool. The search engine can now predict when the price of a particular flight is likely to rise and lets users track airfares by e-mail to see how they fluctuate. The feature puts Google in further competition with the likes of Hopper and Kayak, apps that have long used algorithms to forecast increases and decreases in the cost of airline tickets.
