China Eastern Airlines Opts for Rockwell Collins’ On-Demand IFE

China Eastern Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins’ on-demand PAVES in-flight entertainment (IFE) platform to be installed on 30 Next-Generation Boeing 737s and 60 737 MAX aircraft. PAVES provides a high level of flexibility in terms of IFE configuration and digital content management. The Shanghai-based airline will also install a series of other Rockwell products – including its MultiScan ThreatTrack weather radar, GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver and Head-up Guidance System – on close to 200 other aircraft. “The advancements we’ve made with our in-flight systems and avionics allow for a safer and more comfortable flying experience,” said Jim Walker, vice-president and managing director for International and Service Solutions, Asia Pacific, Rockwell Collins.

Cleared for Takeoff: Heathrow Airport Runway Gets Government Approval

The UK government has given Heathrow Airport the go-ahead to build a third runway, paving the way for hundreds of thousands more flights to and from the UK’s largest air transport hub. Ministers endorsed the Airports Commission’s recommendation to expand Heathrow instead of Gatwick, which had also hoped to build a second runway. The decision will now be subject to a parliamentary vote in 2017 or 2018, but widespread protests and legal challenges are expected to follow. The government said the decision to build the runway would bring economic benefits of up to $74.4 billion, as well as creating up to 77,000 additional jobs.

Bare to the Bone: American Airlines Delays Basic Economy Fare Rollout

American Airlines has pushed back its rollout of basic economy fares from late 2016 to the beginning of next year. The Dallas-based carrier said the delay of the fare, which removes passenger perks, is intended to prevent any disruption over the holidays. However, Brian Sumers of Skift suggests the airline could be taking additional time due to the logistical challenges involved in integrating complicated fare structures. Last week, the White House released new guidelines governing how airlines will be expected to sell tickets.
