STG Aerospace Says Airlines Should Start With Light and Get It Right

STG Aerospace made several announcements at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, including new airline customers for its liTeMood square-beam LED reading light and APEX award-winning saf-Tglo blu photoluminescent floor path marking system. According to STG Aerospace CEO Nigel Duncan, airlines can save money by updating the aircraft lighting, which will have an effect on the entire cabin, instead of focusing on refurbishment, which can be costly. “There’s been a lot of attention on things like the seat, cabin temperature and the quality of the food,” he said. “These are all important, but they’ve been approached in a very individual way. If you start with the lighting and get that right, you can change the whole ambience of the cabin."

Rockwell Collins Exits In-Seat Video to Focus on In-Flight Connectivity

Rockwell Collins is leaving the in-seat video marketplace to focus on in-flight connectivity and plans to launch a new audio-video-on-demand cabin wireless solution in the near future. According to Richard Nordstrom, Rockwell Collins’ senior director for Global Marketing, the decision to exit the in-seat video marketplace had as much to do with the competitive environment as the conclusion of the soon-to-be-finalized B/E Aerospace deal. “We find that a lot of people are driving prices down just to get the order and not to run a business. We’re here to run a business – that’s why we’ve been in business for 80 years,” said Nordstrom.

PaxLife to Provide Wireless IFE to Thomas Cook Group Airlines

PaxLife will be providing wireless in-flight entertainment (wIFE) to Thomas Cook Group Airlines, enabling passengers to stream content and shop on board, opening up new ancillary revenue opportunities. The wIFE system uses a Rockwell Collins server and wireless access points. “Most passengers carry their own smartphone or tablet when they fly and at a time when we’re focused on providing great quality flying at an affordable cost, the PaxLife mobile entertainment solution will enable us to really enhance the passenger experience,” said Gareth Sutton, group director of Product and In-Flight Sales at Thomas Cook Group Airlines.
