GEE Wins 5-Year IFEC Contract With Norwegian Air

Global Eagle Entertainment announced yesterday a five-year deal with Norwegian Air for onboard Wi-Fi, live television and in-flight entertainment content. The agreement covers Norwegian’s fleet of 120 Boeing 737NGs until 2023, including an option to cover its next-generation 737 aircraft for use on transatlantic routes. GEE will also provide Norwegian with additional satellite bandwidth.

Is LG Electronics Planning to Enter the IFEC Market?

LG Electronics is close to acquiring an in-flight entertainment and connectivity company, reports Business Korea. The online publication says once the deal is finalized, LG will sign a contract with Lufthansa. “We have a business model to make profit by supplying aviation parts to Lufthansa as soon as the merger and acquisition deal is cut,” a high-ranking LG official reportedly said.

Laptop Ban Was Enacted After Explosive Test Destroyed Aircraft, Says DHS

According to a US intelligence official, the US in-flight electronics ban was a result of an intelligence report about a terrorist plot seeking to use explosives hidden in a laptop to destroy a commercial flight. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly revealed Wednesday that the ban was implemented after two similar explosive devices concealed in large electronic devices destroyed an aircraft during a TSA test.

West Entertainment and CAMPSITE Media House Form Creative Partnership

West Entertainment has announced a marketing partnership with content creation group CAMPSITE Media House, whose clients include Johnson & Johnson, Virgin Mobile and Mountain Dew. The post-production house and service provider, which was founded by industry veteran Rick Warren in 2016, will now offer clients the ability to create and execute their own original branded content like safety videos and destination pieces.

Your Country Needs You: UK Asks Public for Help Creating a Post-Brexit Aviation Strategy

The UK government today launched an 18-month consultation to formulate a post-Brexit aviation strategy. Issues will include security, environmental impacts and customer service, with public feedback requested on proposals such as city center baggage check-ins and compensation for aircraft noise. The government said a final aviation strategy will be published in late 2018.

Fresh Thinking: SIA’s Wrinkle-Free Amenity Partnership

Singapore Airlines hopes its latest PaxEx collaboration will have passengers arriving fresh, clean and wrinkle-free. That’s because the airline signed an exclusive partnership with eco-friendly clothing care company The Laundress. Brokered by Buzz Products, a company specializing in in-flight products, the tie-up will see SIA offering a selection of The Laundress’ travel-sized clothing care products to first- and business-class passengers.

Delta Introduces Biometric Fingerprint Boarding at DCA

Delta Air Lines rolled out biometric technology yesterday at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport's (DCA) departure gates, allowing passengers to board using fingerprints instead of boarding passes. The initial test period is being run in partnership with CLEAR to analyze how the company’s biometric technology integrates with Delta’s boarding process.
