Ryanair Is Finalizing a Bid for Alitalia, Says O’Leary

Ryanair is finalizing a takeover bid for Alitalia, but has no interest in airberlin, according to Michael O’Leary, the Dublin-based low-cost carrier’s CEO. The acquisition would see the Italian flag carrier’s brand and long-haul operations remain intact, but would involve changes to its short-haul fleet. “We would have to order new planes, whether Boeing or Airbus,” O’Leary said, adding that Ryanair preferred to own its fleet, rather than lease aircraft like Alitalia does.

What Does the iPhone X Mean for the Future of Travel?

Jim Peters, CTO of SITA thinks the iPhone X’s biggest impact will be an increase in public awareness of biometric facial recognition technology, but he doesn’t foresee the devices being used within aviation security. “Governments are not keen on trusting someone else’s device and someone else’s picture capture to identify their citizens or their visitors,” he said. “That will remain more of a challenge in terms of how the iPhone X function would integrate into the aviation industry.”
