Love at First Sight: JetBlue and Airbus Engaged for Launch of A320 Airspace Cabin

JetBlue will be the launch customer for the A320 Airspace cabin interior, featuring fully retracting window screens and overhead bins with 40 percent more volume. The news was announced at APEX EXPO in Long Beach, California, where Ingo Wuggetzer, Airbus’ vice-president of Cabin Marketing, credited the airline for its contributions to the cabin’s development. “I would say that it was love at first sight, you know. We matched perfectly.”

Gogo to Launch Gogo Vision Touch on Delta Air Lines

Gogo will launch a new wireless streaming entertainment solution for seatback-mounted devices on Delta Air Lines’ Bombardier CS100 deliveries in 2018. Gogo Vision Touch will allow for easy and inexpensive repairs, and will enable airlines to push upgrades similar to the way they are received on phones and tablets. “Many of the IFE [in-flight entertainment] systems out there have components of consumer-based products from a software to hardware perspective,” said Scott Ralston, vice-president of Product Management, Gogo. “This is truly the first consumer-based display.”

Introducing the 2017 APEX Awards Winners

The PaxEx industry’s best innovations were recognized at a ceremony at APEX EXPO last night. Ratings from passengers, gathered via the TripIt app from Concur, determined the winners of the Passenger Choice Awards, with four- and five-star-rated airlines honored in the categories of Global, Major Regional and Low-Cost. A panel of industry media experts chose the winners of the APEX Awards’ eight categories. Emirates president Sir Tim Clark received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Thales Avionics’ Pierre Schuberth received the Outstanding Contribution Award.

American Airlines to Launch Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa

American Airlines will be the first airline to offer the Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa when it becomes available to customers later this year. The voice-activated service allows travelers using Alexa-enabled devices, like the Amazon Echo speaker, to learn about the airline’s in-flight entertainment offerings before takeoff. The service, which provides information about titles, actors, ratings and more, is the latest addition to Spafax’s Profile entertainment personalization platform, which is set to launch with American this October.

Cappuccino and Chill: Zodiac’s Galley Innovations

Today at APEX EXPO, Zodiac Inflight Innovation unveiled the first and only aircraft insert capable of whipping up a variety of espresso-based drinks from cappuccinos to macchiatos. The espresso maker is the latest addition to Zodiac’s NUVO collection of galley inserts, which includes an advanced oven, coffee maker, water heater, bun warmer and beverage chiller. It can process coffee capsules from multiple brands, and create two drinks at a time.

Bombardier in C Series Talks With Chinese Airlines, Says Executive

Bombardier hopes to close deals to sell its C Series aircraft to China’s three biggest airlines within the next few months. Marc Meloche, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft’s head of Structured Finance, said he hopes the deals could be announced during a visit by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to China next month. “Bombardier is talking to all three big Chinese airlines, as well as many regional [players] and startups,” he said.

Embraer Announces New E-Jet IFEC Suppliers

Embraer has selected Meggitt Polymers & Composites and KID-Systeme as the new in-flight entertainment and connectivity suppliers for its second-generation aircraft in the E-Jet family. KID-Systeme will provide Embraer with its SKYfi Club in-flight wireless streaming platform, while Meggitt will design, manufacture and assemble the aircraft’s installation kit, comprising a radome, a skirt seal, an adapter plate and fittings.
