Immfly Lands EasyJet Wireless IFE Deal

EasyJet has partnered with Immfly to launch its wireless in-flight entertainment service, Air Time. Passengers will be able to stream content from Fox Non-Theatrical and Euronews, and access audio books, e-books, interactive maps, language tutorials and digital retail catalogs on their own devices. Tokyo-based e-commerce company Rakuten will be the official sponsor and content curator of Air Time, which will launch on five aircraft in October.

AirAsia Group Selects Inmarsat’s GX Aviation

AirAsia Group announced today that it has selected Inmarsat’s GX Aviation to provide airborne broadband. Covering 120 existing aircraft along with future additions to the fleet, the service will be operational in early 2018. “Why we chose Inmarsat is because the name stands for itself. We believe that this is the right partner for us, long term,” Benyamin Ismail, AirAsia X CEO, told APEX Media at APEX EXPO in Long Beach today.

Bombardier Faces US Import Duties of Almost 220% on C Series Aircraft

The US will impose a duty of nearly 220% on imports of Bombardier’s C Series aircraft if a price-dumping investigation rules that subsidies on the narrow-body jets ordered by Delta Air Lines in 2016 are materially damaging to Boeing. "The magnitude of the proposed duty is absurd and divorced from the reality about the financing of multibillion-dollar aircraft programs,” Bombardier said.

APEX Media director Maryann Simson caught up with Joel Otto, Rockwell Collins' senior director Corporate Sales and Marketing, at APEX EXPO to find out how things have changed since Rockwell Collins completed its acquisition of B/E Aerospace in April this year. “There weren’t really any significant overlaps between the two companies ... where we might have to get rid of equipment or integrate product lines,” said Otto. “We see a lot of opportunity for systems to engage with the cabin crew and passengers to create a better passenger experience.”

Delta to Offer Free Mobile Messaging on Board

Delta Air Lines will begin offering free in-flight messaging via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Apple’s iMessage. The service will be available on all of Delta’s Gogo-connected aircraft, starting October 1. However, the complimentary service is for text only – images and video will not be supported. Delta says it is the first of the big three US carriers to offer the perk.

Air France Reveals More Details About Joon

Joon, Air France’s new millennial-focused airline, has revealed more details of its brand image and product offering. The airline will offer in-flight entertainment programming from Vice and Red Bull TV, and onboard meals made with organic produce, in addition to partnerships with Airbnb and Le BHV Marais.

WestJet Calls Its New ULCC Brand “Swoop”

WestJet will name its planned ultra low-cost carrier brand Swoop. The Calgary-based airline also revealed Swoop’s aircraft livery will feature a magenta logo and wing tips, and a magenta and white tail with a white fuselage, when it launches in early 2018. WestJet said in a press release that the name Swoop reflects the plan to "swoop into the Canadian market with a new business model that will provide lower fares.”
