Singapore Airlines Plans Cost-Cutting Measures

Singapore Airlines intends to cut fuel consumption, review relationships with suppliers and invest in digital technology as part of a three-year transformation plan aimed at boosting competitiveness. The plans were detailed in a September staff newsletter obtained by Reuters, in which CEO Goh Choon Phong highlighted 56 initiatives that the airline is working on, including self-service options for passengers and reducing in-flight food and beverage waste.

Pax2Go Selects Zodiac’s Z100 Seat for Narrow-Body Aircraft

Pax2Go, a firm specializing in aircraft interior reconfigurations, has selected Zodiac Seats US’ Z100 economy-class seat for its narrow-body retrofit programs. The company says it expects these programs will generate demand of up to 10 shipsets per month over the next few years. “Pax2Go’s selection of ZSUS is a resounding endorsement of our ability to deliver the Z100 at high volumes with very short lead times,” said Jeff Barger, CEO of Zodiac Seats US.

Eurowings Wants Passengers to Choose Its Next Route

Eurowings is asking its passengers to vote for which new route it should start flying next summer. The Lufthansa Group subsidiary launched its “You vote, we fly” campaign on Wednesday, giving passengers a choice of 10 European short-haul routes. After an initial round of voting, three destinations will be shortlisted, with the winning route selected on Facebook during a live finale. “No other airline has ever done this,” Eurowings CCO Oliver Wagner said.

KLM Entices LCC Passengers With Virtual Reality PaxEx App

KLM has launched a new virtual reality (VR) app for iOS and Android devices that aims to draw a distinction between its onboard experience and that of rival low-cost airlines. The KLM Flight Upgrader app involves a VR tour of a KLM wide-body aircraft cabin, including the opportunity to virtually sample the movies and television episodes available on its in-flight entertainment system and the experience of being served by a flight attendant.

IATA: Global Air Traffic Up 7.2% in August

Growth in global passenger traffic rose by 7.2% in August, compared to 6.8% in July, according to IATA. The industry association said in its latest monthly traffic update that 2017 is on course to being a year of strong growth, but that the pace could slow in the final months. “Some important demand drivers are easing, particularly lower fares,” said IATA CEO Alexandre de Juniac.

Seen on the Silver Screen: Top 20 Airports Featured in Films

Air New Zealand tallied how many times airports around the world have been featured in films and shared the results in an infographic. Los Angeles International Airport ranked first, with a total of 173 productions, including Airplane! and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, filmed on its premises. European airports claimed the second and third spots: Heathrow Airport and Paris-Charles de Gaulle have appeared in 75 and 73 films, respectively.

Delta Adds Prosecco to Economy-Class Drinks Menu

Delta Air Lines has introduced prosecco to its drinks selection for economy-class passengers. Avissi Prosecco is now available on all of Delta’s international flights, while passengers in the Delta One cabin will be offered a selection of wines curated by the airline’s master sommelier, Andrea Robinson. “Sparkling wine is often the first choice for a celebration,” said Lisa Bauer, Delta’s VP, Onboard Services. “We know how special it is for people to jet off on a trip so we wanted to bring the celebration to them.”
