Delta Describes Airbus A350 as Its “Flagship Aircraft”

Delta Air Lines unveiled its first Airbus A350 yesterday in Atlanta, describing the new wide-body as its “flagship aircraft.” The airline showed off the interior of the 306-seat A350 before a demonstration flight for the media on Tuesday afternoon. The aircraft is debuting the carrier’s new Delta One suites featuring lie-flat beds and its new Delta Premium Select premium economy cabin.

EasyJet Has No Plans to Enter Long-Haul Market

EasyJet won’t enter the low-cost, long-haul market, since it has plenty of opportunities to buy parts of failed European carriers, said Carolyn McCall, the airline’s CEO on Tuesday. “From a board perspective, that’s not on the agenda. There’s so much organic growth. If you look at the consolidation, Monarch, Alitalia, airberlin, we are talking to all of them,” she said, also revealing the low-cost carrier is interested in Monarch Airlines' airport slots after it went bust at the beginning of the month.

El Al Introduces an Onboard Meal Concept to Match Its Dreamliner Interiors

El Al has introduced a new in-flight dining concept inspired by Israel’s landscapes to coincide with the launch of the airline’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The onboard meal packaging was created by lyly.design to match the Israeli flag carrier’s new Dreamliner interiors, which were designed by PriestmanGoode. “As a part of the design research process … we collected hundreds of visuals, starting from bird’s view pictures of different parts of Israel, to geology books,” said Idan Noyberg of lyly.design.

SWISS Will Launch Its Second Flying Film Festival

Swiss International Air Lines will launch its second Flying Film Festival at the beginning of November. The initiative will showcase 10 short documentaries and docu-animations from promising directors via the SWISS in-flight entertainment system on long-haul flights. This year’s Flying Film Festival selection includes productions from seven countries, with a judging panel expected to award a prize to the best film in January 2018.

Amadeus Outlines Its Vision for How Blockchain Will Change PaxEx

Amadeus is developing prototype blockchain products for the travel industry. The company’s newly published paper, Blockchain: Harnessing Its Potential in Travel, outlines how the technology could make loyalty schemes more user-friendly and improve identity management in travel. “Imagine landing from a long flight and having points credited to an app immediately that could then be used to pay for a ride-sharing service from the airport,” Amadeus says in the report.

Luggage Delivery Service AirPortr Secures $2.6-Million Investment

AirPortr recently locked down a $2.6-million investment from Stobart Group, which owns and operates London Southend and Carlisle Lake District airports. The London-based baggage concierge service has moved over 47,000 pieces of luggage since it launched in 2016, in partnership with British Airways. “Our next airline customer will be going live with our bag check-in service here in London, next month,” said Randel Darby, AirPortr CEO.

Etihad Partners With Louvre Abu Dhabi

Etihad Airways signed a partnership agreement with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which is set to open next month. Etihad will work with the museum on brand partnerships, marketing, social media, in-flight programming, events, exhibitions, public relations and more. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ CEO, said the airline is committed to “co-creating experiences which will showcase this magnificent museum.”
