Qatar Airways Becomes Cathay Pacific’s Third-Largest Shareholder

Qatar Airways has purchased a 9.61% stake in Cathay Pacific for $661 million, making it the airline’s third-largest shareholder, after Swire Pacific (45%) and Air China (30%). This is Qatar’s first major stake in an Asian airline, as the Doha-based, state-owned carrier looks to broaden its reach, after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia cut transport ties with Qatar in June.

United Airlines is planning to target millennials with its Los Angeles–Singapore route, which became the longest nonstop flight by a US carrier when it launched last week. “The Singapore ambassador in US informed us that there has been 10% more demand for travel from US to Singapore, and interestingly, lots of millennials are traveling between US and Singapore,” said Marcel Fuchs, United’s vice-president of Atlantic and Pacific Sales. “We hope to drive this trend further.” With this in mind, the airline is upgrading its mobile app, which will soon enable United customers to make changes to their flight itineraries and scan their visas.

Airport Uber Rides Cheapest in Birmingham, LA and Vegas, Study Says

According to a study by New Zealand-based car-hire company Go Rentals, Uber rides from the airport to the city center are cheapest in Birmingham (UK), Los Angeles and Las Vegas. In August, LAX began allowing ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft to drop off and pick up passengers in the same trip. While car rental options are often included when booking through an online travel agency, some airlines, like Jet Airways, have started including Uber reservations in the booking process.
