Disney Agrees to $52.4 Billion Deal to Acquire Most 21st Century Fox Assets

Disney has reached a deal to buy most of 21st Century Fox’s assets, in an all-stock transaction valued around $54.2 billion. The deal, if approved by global antitrust regulators, will allow Disney to become a true competitor of Netflix, Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook in the realm of online streaming. In addition to 21st Century Fox’s movie studio and regional sports networks, Disney is buying cable channels FX and National Geographic and will also acquire Fox’s stakes in Hulu and European pay-TV provider Sky.

Delta Places Order for 100 Airbus A321neos

Delta Air Lines has placed an order with Airbus for 100 A321neos, worth $12.7 billion at list prices. Deliveries of the narrow-body jets will begin in early 2020 and the deal includes options for an additional 100 aircraft. The A321neos will replace Delta’s 1990s-era McDonnell Douglas MD-90 jets, as well as its older Boeing 757s and Airbus A320s. Delta will configure its A321neos with 197 seats, including 20 in first class and 30 in economy class with extra legroom, branded as Delta Comfort+.

Eurowings to Introduce Business-Class Cabin With Lie-Flat Seats

Eurowings, Lufthansa’s low-cost subsidiary, will launch business-class product with lie-flat seats on select long-haul flights from Dusseldorf, starting in April. Called BIZclass, the new product will be officially unveiled at ITB Berlin in early March. “We see strong demand for another top product from our company on routes with a higher proportion of business travel, for example on US flights from Dusseldorf to New York, Miami or Fort Myers,” said Oliver Wagner, Eurowings’ CEO and CCO.

Reuters Investigation: In-Flight Sexual Assaults Are Vastly Underreported

According to Reuters, most people it contacted while conducting an investigative report about in-flight sexual misconduct against passengers and crew – including representatives from airlines, flight attendant unions and airline training consultants – said incidents are greatly underreported. “It’s a global issue and every country has to deal with the fallout,” said Saj Ahmad, a London-based analyst at Strategic Aero Research. According to IATA, last year, airlines globally reported just 211 instances of “inappropriate sexual behavior.”

Etihad Bringing Luxury Touches to Economy Class, What’s the Catch?

Etihad Airways’ economy-class passengers will soon have access to luxury amenities normally restricted to business- and first-class customers. The Gulf carrier will offer Christian Lacroix-branded sleepwear and amenity kits to passengers in the main cabin on ultra long-haul flights. However, there’s a catch. A pair of PJs will cost passengers $35, while the amenity kit with Omorovicza products costs $22.

According to Airlines for America, 51 million travelers will fly globally on US airlines this holiday season. With plans to promote ugly holiday sweaters and serve Christmas dinners, airlines are getting into the festive spirit. Airlines, including United and American, are also giving back to their communities with special flights for those in need.
