Flynas is Launch Customer for Geven ESSENZA Economy Seat

Italian seat manufacturer Geven has secured a launch customer for its ESSENZA economy-class seating product. The seats will fly on board Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier Flynas, beginning with the carrier’s Airbus A320neo deliveries in Q3 2018. Flynas plans to take delivery of 60 A320neo aircraft, equipped with the seats, by 2026.

Airbus Completes Assembly of Its First A321 ACF

Airbus has assembled the first A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) aircraft at its facility in Hamburg. The CFM International LEAP-1A-powered narrow-body will offer airlines a higher seating capacity than the standard A321 variant of up to 240 passengers with the addition of a new rear section and remodeled door configuration. The aircraft will now undergo ground testing, with Airbus aiming to deliver its first A321neo ACF by mid-2018.

Burst Water Main Shuts Down JFK’s Terminal 4

Terminal 4 of New York’s John. F. Kennedy International Airport was evacuated on Sunday afternoon after a burst water main flooded large parts of the building. The disruption added to the existing backlog of delayed and canceled flights caused by the recent winter storm over the northeastern US. Passengers who had already arrived were diverted to other terminals, according to Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport.

Turkish Airlines Signs MoU for Up to 25 Airbus A350s

Turkish Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus to buy 20 A350-900s and secured options for another five. The MoU was signed during an official visit to France by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, hosted by President Emmanuel Macron. Turkish Airlines board chairman İlker Aycı said the order will “play a key role in our growing business in the years to come.”

Pet Set: EasyJet Launches a Pet-Sitting Partnership

EasyJet wants to make it easier for pet owners to travel the world. The low-cost carrier has launched a partnership with TrustedHousesitters to allow customers to choose a free, verified house sitter for their pet, or find free accommodation as a house sitter when booking flights through the easyJet website. The move comes after a survey of easyJet’s customers revealed that a majority of pet owners would travel more if they had better access to pet care.

Air Astana Adds IFC to Its Second Boeing 767

Air Astana has installed satellite-based in-flight connectivity on its second Boeing 767. The Kazakh carrier’s onboard Wi-Fi service uses Rockwell Collins’ cabin system and Honeywell fuselage-mount Ka-band antennas that connect to Inmarsat GX. The service is available to both business- and economy-class passengers, who can purchase one of three data packages offering 15MB, 50MB and 100MB respectively.

BA Redesigns Its Long-Haul In-Flight Catering

British Airways is revamping its in-flight catering on long-haul World Traveller routes. New options include pretzels with a welcome drink, a four-course meal, and a second meal or snack depending on the length of the flight. “Our customers tell us that when they’re taking a long-haul flight, great food and beverages make a real difference to them,” said Carolina Martinoli, BA’s director of Brand and Customer Experience. The new offering launches on January 17 with menus that will change every six months.
