Airbus and Zodiac Aerospace Partner for Lower-Deck Modules

Airbus and Zodiac Aerospace today announced a partnership that will see both companies develop lower-deck modules that include passenger sleeping berths. In a joint statement, they said the modules will be certified by 2020, at which time they will be available for airlines to install, initially on A330s. Airbus also said it is studying the possibility of adding sleeper compartments on board A350 WXBs. “This approach to commercial air travel is a step change towards passenger comfort. We have already received very positive feedback from several airlines on our first mock-ups,” said Geoff Pinner, head of Airbus Cabin and Cargo Program.

[VIDEO] Panasonic Avionics Announces Major Partnerships at AIX

Panasonic Avionics chief technology officer David Bartlett unveiled what he described as “the full story” of its NEXT in-flight entertainment and connectivity platform at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg. Additionally, he announced partnerships with companies such as Amazon and gategroup. APEX Media caught up with Jon Norris, Panasonic Avionics’ senior director, Marketing, to learn more about how and why it is using NEXT, cloud-based data and new partnerships to expand the company’s passenger experience footprint.

Wizz Air Bids Big on Geven’s New Essenza Economy-Class Seat

Wizz Air has selected Geven’s new Essenza single-aisle economy-class seat for its 110 new Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, marking the central and eastern European low-cost carrier’s largest seat order ever. The new seat, which will be deployed in a single-economy class layout on the aircraft, will be rolled out from January 2019 and streamlined over the following five years.

Turkish LCC Pegasus Airlines Signs Up for Immfly Digital Services

Immfly today announced that it has been selected by low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines to equip its entire fleet of 76 existing aircraft with in-flight digital services. The digital platform will also be installed on additional aircraft that Pegasus has on order, bringing the total to over 100. The partnership marks the first time Immfly’s digital platform will fly from Turkey to Russia and the Caucasus, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

[VIDEO] Global Eagle Broadens Its Appeal With Airconnect Go Wireless IFE

Global Eagle has created a new portable on-demand wireless in-flight entertainment system, Airconnect Go, by combining its content and Airtime Portal software with hardware from Astronics. Mike Piggott, the company’s VP Connectivity Products and Solutions, said the product combination will provide a “superior experience” for Global Eagle’s target market, which includes smaller regional airlines, low-cost carriers and charter companies using leased aircraft. He also said Airconnect Go will operate on a subscription-based model and that the launch customer will be announced in the second half of 2018.

LSG Group Invests in Packaged-Products Market With New Brand Evertaste

LSG Group revealed a new brand for packaged products at World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo today. Evertaste’s portfolio of ready-to-eat products includes prepackaged salads, boxed meals, desserts, sandwiches and more. Evertaste will gradually replace the current brands within LSG Group that cover the packaged-products segment, such as Starfood, Oakfield Farms and Constance Food Group. “The market potential for packaged products is enormous,” said Erdmann Rauer, LSG Group CEO. “The launch of Evertaste clearly underlines our strong commitment to investing in this market segment.”

Visit our Boston-themed reception on the AIX show floor Wednesday, 11 April, starting at 4pm to celebrate the upcoming APEX EXPO / IFSA EXPO / AIX EXPO in Boston 25-28 September. The reception area, which will be fashioned like Boston’s famous Fenway Park, will offer up complimentary beer, popcorn, and hotdogs (first-come, first-served). The Boston Booth will be located in Hall B7 at Booth 7A01. The booth will be open all throughout the show, with seating and free Wi-Fi access. While in Hamburg, APEX will also be celebrated during the 2018 Crystal Cabin Awards, hosted by APEX Media Director Maryann Simson.
