[PHOTOS] Oman Air Unveils a Fully Enclosed First-Class Suite

Oman Air has unveiled its new first-class cabin featuring fully enclosed suites that will debut on the carrier’s Boeing 787-9s. The suites, revealed at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, feature electronically controlled sliding doors and lie-flat seats measuring 23 inches wide with a pitch of 82 inches. Each seat also features a touchscreen panel that allows passengers to control mood lighting, seat position and activate a “do not disturb” sign.

Airbus A350-900ULR Completes First Test Flight

Airbus has completed the first flight of its A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) variant from its manufacturing plant in Toulouse. The wide-body aircraft is capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles and will be delivered to launch customer Singapore Airlines in the second half of this year. The Southeast Asian carrier has ordered seven A350-900ULRs, which it plans to use on nonstop flights between Singapore and the United States.

Airline Associations Call for Reform to “Unfair” EU Compensation Rules

Representatives from IATA and the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) are pushing the EU to reform its rules on how airlines compensate passengers for flight disruption. Introduced in 2004, EU Regulation 261 established rules regarding compensating passengers when a flight is canceled or delayed, or boarding is denied. “The majority of interpretations by the different courts have been very detrimental to the airlines and very much in favor of the passengers,” said Montserrat Barriga, the ERA's director general, speaking yesterday at the Routes Europe event in Bilbao.

EAD Aerospace Obtains EASA STC for Inmarsat GX Antenna Airbus A320s

EAD Aerospace has received a supplemental type certificate (STC) from EASA for its Inmarsat GX fuselage-mounted satcom antenna on the entire Airbus A320 aircraft family. The STC is for the latest generation of EAD Aerospace’s Satcom Universal Mounting System, which supports the Honeywell fuselage-mounted GX antenna and radome.

New IFE Channel Shows British Airways Making Its Customers’ Day

British Airways has launched a new channel for its in-flight entertainment, which the UK flag carrier will use to share “heart-warming customer stories in which the airline has had a hand in adding a special touch of magic.” The channel, called “BA Magic,” is featuring seven short films about how the airline surprised customers who had submitted special written requests. In making the videos, BA said it enlisted the help of British celebrities and brands, including Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Lamborghini, Xbox and Rangers Football Club in Glasgow.

Jabbrrbox Introduces Airport Lounges in a Box

The first airport-based Jabbrrboxes are now available at New York’s LaGuardia International Airport, where eight have been installed in Terminal B. The “acoustically sound,” phone-booth style private workstations are equipped with a desk, power ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB charging ports. “We saw the need for ‘space as a service,’” said company president and co-founder Jeremy Jennings. “Jabbrrbox is your space-away-from-office.”
