[PHOTOS] Hong Kong Airlines Unveils New Airbus A350 Business-Class Cabin

Hong Kong Airlines has unveiled a revamped business-class cabin on board a newly delivered Airbus A350. The interior features 33 Rockwell Collins’ Super Diamond international business-class lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 layout and Thales AVANT in-flight entertainment hardware with 17-inch seatback displays. “Our latest business-class offering and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system is the result of an ambitious effort to revamp our premium services for our customers. These are significant investments for the company,” said Wang Liya, Hong Kong Airlines’ vice-chairman and president.

AirlineCheckins Trials PLUS Offering Including Wi-Fi

Lufthansa Innovation Hub is expanding its AirlineCheckins platform with the introduction of a premium membership tier. PLUS users have access to unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi on board 36 airlines, including Air France, Eurowings, KLM, Lufthansa, SWISS and American Airlines. PLUS membership also includes access to 42 million on-the-ground Wi-Fi hotspots across the world and discounts of up to 20% at more than 370 lounges in global airports.

Air New Zealand Secures IFE Content Partnership With Chinese Video Platform

Air New Zealand has partnered with one of China’s biggest online video platforms to feature Chinese language content on its in-flight entertainment system. Starting this month, the airline is adding iQIYI as a channel on its IFE system across all of its flights. The Beijing-based video platform has more than 500 million active monthly users and is known for producing original content. "iQIYI is one of the big three media companies in China, so we’re thrilled to have them on board as a partner supplying exciting new content,” said Anita Hawthorne, Air New Zealand’s general manager for Customer Experience.

[PHOTOS] GOL Partners With Kaelis for New In-Flight Tableware

GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes has teamed up with Kaelis Group to revamp its in-flight dining experience. The onboard product provider created two sets of tableware – a disposable set for economy class and a reusable set for premium economy class – that launched on GOL flights in early July. The new tableware is available on 50 domestic routes and 14 international routes, including Sao Paulo to Miami and Sao Paulo to Santiago, Chile.

BA to Launch UK-Inspired Short-Haul Business-Class Menu

British Airways announced it will change its in-flight menu for short-haul business-class passengers. Starting September 12, the airline said its Club Europe passengers will be able to choose from new “dishes developed around key British ingredients,” including shaved Herefordshire roast beef on tartar cream with rocket, British pork sausage and mash and a selection of UK cheeses. “Many of our flyers travel regularly so we think they’ll appreciate more variety and great quality ingredients. Our focus on provenance will also deliver seasonal dishes from around the British Isles,” said Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ director of Brand and Customer Experience.




Virgin Atlantic Partners With SITA Lab for AR Cabin Crew Training

Virgin Atlantic will use augmented reality (AR) technology to train flight attendants on the layout of cabins.. The UK-based carrier will use software developed in partnership with SITA Lab for Apple devices to allow trainee cabin crew to walk through a 3-D rendered simulation of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner cabin. “Working with pioneering airlines such as Virgin Atlantic makes it possible for SITA Lab to really explore the potential of augmented reality and evaluate its business benefits,” said Gustavo Pina, head of SITA Lab.

One Dead and 18 Injured After Russian Air Crash in Sochi

A Boeing 737-800 operated by Utair skidded off the runway into a riverbed and burst into flames after touching down at Sochi International Airport in Russia on Saturday. Flight UT579 was carrying 164 passengers and six crew from Moscow. Russia’s Ministry of Health said 18 people were injured and a shift supervisor at the airport died during the emergency response to the crash after having a heart attack at the scene. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
