Sun Country Airlines to Launch AirFi’s Latest Wireless IFE Hardware

AirFi has announced that Sun Country Airlines will become the global launch customer for its latest wireless in-flight entertainment system variant. The Minneapolis–Saint Paul-based low-cost carrier will install the AirFi Venus Box hardware on board its 25 Boeing 737s to replace its limited deployment of rental tablets. Sun Country Airlines will offer some IFE content for free, while charging a fee for a selection of premium content. “Passengers have come to expect a digital onboard entertainment offering as part of our in-flight experience and so a fully managed wireless IFE service suited our future needs best,” said Brian Davis, Sun Country Airlines’ chief marketing officer.

Japan Typhoon: Osaka Airport Cleanup Operation Underway

A cleanup operation is underway after the most powerful storm to hit Japan in 25 years caused flooding at Osaka’s Kansai International Airport. Typhoon Jebi left 5,000 tourists stranded overnight at the airport, which is built on reclaimed land on a bay near Osaka and connected to the mainland by a bridge that was damaged when a tanker collided with it during the storm. Heavy rain flooded the main runway and surrounding tarmac and it could take several days to a week to reopen Kansai airport, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese daily newspaper.
