VIDEO: Is Bluetooth/LEO Connectivity Coming to Commercial Aviation?

AS-IP Tech’s Bluetooth in-flight connectivity solution could be coming to commercial aircraft in the next quarter of this year, according to president Ron Chapman. The system, which integrates Bluetooth technology with low-Earth orbit satellites, has already been installed on over 70 corporate jets and provides passengers with basic messaging and buy-on-board services. Chapman says installation takes just five hours and at approximately$25,000 is a more cost-effective alternative to full Wi-Fi connectivity.

Ryanair CEO Tells UK Transport Secretary to “Get Off His Backside” and Strike EU Deal

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary told the UK’s Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, to “get off his backside” and strike a deal with the EU to prevent flights being grounded in the event of a no-deal Brexit. O’Leary said Grayling’s attempt to individually convince 27 EU member states to prepare bespoke aviation deals with the UK was “doomed to failure,” adding that Grayling had “no assurances from the EU that planes will continue flying” after March 29, 2019, the official Brexit date.
