Ethiopian Airlines Integrates Alipay Into Mobile App

Ethiopian Airlines is now able to accept payments via Alipay. The integration of the Chinese payment method into the airline’s mobile app is part of the Ethiopian flag carrier’s continued partnership with CellPoint Mobile. "CellPoint Mobile has demonstrated its commitment and knowledge of the Africa region as a member of the African Airlines Association, as well as its global reach as a payment service provider," said Ethiopian Airlines’ digital director, Miretab Teklaye.

[PHOTOS] Delta’s First Airbus A220 Rolls Out of Paint Shop

Delta Air Lines’ first Airbus A220 has rolled out of the paint shop at the Bombardier assembly line in Mirabel, Quebec. The aircraft will now enter the final assembly stage, before its first test flight in the fall and scheduled entry into service in early 2019. Delta has 75 A220-100s on order and will be the first US carrier to operate the aircraft, joining Korean Air, SWISS and airBaltic.

Qatar Airways Adds GQ and Vogue IFE Content

Qatar Airways has added video content from GQ and Vogue to its Oryx One in-flight entertainment system. The Vogue content includes coverage from the Met Gala’s red carpet, makeup tips, short-form creative films and rapid-fire interviews with celebrities. The GQ channel features interviews with Hollywood A-listers and a comedy series where celebrities go undercover on social media to answer real-life questions about themselves.

Flame Distribution Launches Over 400 Hours of New Content

Information regarding new acquisitions from Flame Distribution, which amount to over 400 hours of content, will be available to in-flight buyers at APEX EXPO in Boston. Thomas Gould, vice-president of Content Sales, Worldwide Transport and Digital at Flame Distribution, commented, “In-flight sales are an important focus for Flame. I am really looking forward to meeting clients old and new and continuing to forge strong relationships with buyers at this year’s APEX EXPO.”

VIDEO: How Bangalore Airport Is Dealing With Exponential Growth

In 10 years, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), which is managed by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), has gone from handling 8.7 million passengers per year to an astonishing 30 million. It is currently undergoing a $2-billion expansion program. During an interview with APEX Media director Maryann Simson at Aviation Festival in London, CEO of BIAL Hari Marar explains the steps BIAL is taking to accommodate this unforeseen growth. He says it is "not bricks, but bytes" which will be the foundation for improvement at BLR in the years to come.

Routehappy Now Knows What Drinks Are Offered on What Flights

Routehappy by ATPCO has started tracking the type and availability of beverages offered on particular flights, including whether they are complimentary or offered at cost. Last week, Qantas became the first airline to integrate the Routehappy beverage amenity into its website. The product differentiation platform has also begun detailing the availability of snacks and light meals on select airlines.

China Southern Plans Fleet of 2,000 by 2035

China Southern Airlines plans to more than double its fleet to 2,000 aircraft by 2035. During the World Routes conference today, Tan Wangeng, the airline’s CEO, said China Southern will operate a fleet of 1,000 aircraft by 2020. He also said the airline is exploring ways to cooperate with low-cost carriers and plans to launch routes to South America within the next three years.
