Panasonic Avionics Unveils Five Wellness Launch Suite Products

Panasonic Avionics unveiled new details about its Wellness product suite, one of the four pillars of its NEXT platform. The Wellness launch suite includes five products: premium lighting, active noise cancellation, nanoe air cleansing, Detalytics health app and Mimi personalized audio. Panasonic Avionics says it has undisclosed launch customers for all the products, including commitments for 2019 and 2020 deliveries. “We're not wellness experts, but what we're really good at is building platforms and so we have built a platform that wellness and health advocates and experts will be able to endorse and enrich,” said Andrew Mohr, Panasonic Avionics’ head of Innovation.

Thales AVANT to Fly on American Airlines’ Boeing Dreamliner Fleet

American Airlines’ upcoming fleet of Boeing 787-8 aircraft will fly with the Thales AVANT in-flight entertainment system. American’s business-class passengers will have access to a 17-inch full HD Flex screen and Thales Avii controller, which doubles as a second screen. Economy and premium economy passengers will have 10-inch and 12-inch Fit HD screens, respectively. Joining American’s existing fleet of Dreamliners, the 22 additional 787-8s will enter service in early 2020.

The world’s leading airlines and aviation innovations were recognized at yesterday evening’s APEX Awards ceremony at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Helping to celebrate the winners of the Official Airline Ratings, Passenger Choice Awards, APEX Awards and Heart Awards for the second year in a row was host Brian Kelly (The Points Guy). Air Canada’s Calin Rovinescu became the first North American CEO to win the APEX CEO Lifetime Achievement Award.

Airbus Bets on Connected Cabins for Happier Passengers and Crew

Airbus is showing off its Connected Cabin concept at APEX EXPO this week, highlighting the possibilities available in an increasingly digital cabin environment. Airbus’ vice-president, Cabin Marketing, Ingo Wuggetzer, explained that the ecosystem is being provided by Airbus, but other vendors will build on top of it. “We connect all the elements of the cabin wirelessly, collect all the data and provide that to the airline to do data analytics to reduce costs and improve ancillary revenue opportunities,” he said.

SkyLights, Stelia Aerospace and InSeat Solutions Team Up for VR-Integrated Business-Class Seats

SkyLights has unveiled an in-seat virtual reality (VR) experience, developed in partnership with InSeat Solutions and Stelia Aerospace. The product combines SkyLights’ Allosky headset, Stelia Aerospace’s new Opal business-class seat and InSeat Solutions’ interactive massage system for a cinematic VR entertainment solution integrated directly into the seat. Alaska Airlines recently became the first North American airline to offer SkyLights’ Allosky VR headset to passengers on board.

Air Canada Announced as Spafax IQ Launch Customer

Spafax announced Air Canada as the launch customer for Spafax IQ, the company’s in-flight entertainment and connectivity analytics platform. The platform will provide Air Canada with a set of dashboards showing category and item performance, media and advertising performance, and cost per engagement. Spafax has also added new features to Profile (its entertainment personalization platform), and Scandinavian Airlines has signed on as the product’s sixth airline customer.

Galileo Watermark to Deliver New Non-Slip Trays to United Airlines

Galileo Watermark has designed and manufactured new full- and half-size service trays for United Airlines’ cabin crew. Made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and polycarbonate chrome instead of traditional plastics or stainless steel, each new tray will save over 800 grams in weight compared to those currently flying. After a year of design, prototyping and testing, Galileo Watermark says deployment of the silver-and-black trays is imminent.
