Latécoère Joins Seamless Air Alliance

France-based Latécoère, an aerostructures and interconnect systems company, has joined Seamless Air Alliance, which was founded by Airbus, Airtel, Delta, OneWeb and Sprint. The company hopes to share its expertise to contribute to the development of new in-flight connectivity standards for consistency across routes and for the cost of data access infrastructure.

Gogo 2Ku Takes Off on Air France

Air France has launched in-flight connectivity on its first Airbus A330 and Boeing 777, which are equipped with Gogo’s 2Ku high-speed satellite, giving passengers on long-haul flights access to Wi-Fi. “As we continue to install aircraft with 2Ku, we remain highly focused on performance in order to provide a great experience on every aircraft, every flight," said John Wade, president of Commercial Aviation at Gogo. Installations are underway for Air France’s remaining long-haul fleet of 83 aircraft.

FTS to Equip China's Donghai Airlines and Qingdao Airlines With In-Flight Connectivity

FTS announced at APEX EXPO this week that it has signed an agreement to install its XStream-SAT next-generation in-flight broadband system on Donghai Airlines' fleet. The wireless in-flight entertainment and connectivity solutions provider will also equip Qingdao Airlines' entire fleet of A320 aircraft with its XStream-SAT broadband connectivity system. In addition, FTS is collaborating with Global Onboard Partners, a provider of in-flight advertising products, to offer a seamless in-flight entertainment and ancillary revenue service for airlines.

Air China Goes With Global ONE Media for IFE Content

Air China has selected Global ONE Media to license and deliver in-flight entertainment content for the airline’s global fleet. The contract, which was signed this month, covers television, as well as domestic and international movies in multiple languages. “We are very excited to contract with Global ONE Media and we are positive they will add great value to our passenger experience,” said Le Zhang, content director, Air China.

Inflight Media Digital Serves Up New Marketplace for Targeted Advertising

Inflight Media Digital, a subsidiary of Inflight Media Marketing International, known for its AirSAS in-flight ad-serving solution, has launched AirPMP, a new marketplace that enables advertisers to browse the ad-space inventory available on airline seatback and wireless entertainment systems. While AirSAS places ads based on passenger nationality, age, gender or route, AirPMP matches airline offers and advertiser demands to optimize the buying and selling of ad space.

IFSA Makes Positive Steps Regarding FSMA Legislation

Hosted by the IFSA Government Affairs and Education Committee, the second session of the in-flight services track at APEX EXPO involved discussion around the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), which aims to shift the approach to foodborne illnesses. To navigate the requirements set by the FSMA, IFSA brought in Dean Davidson, who has 30 years of training and experience in food safety law with the US Food and Drug Administration, to work with the committee to produce a model food safety plan.

The APEX Cool Award was created to recognize the innovative spirit showcased each year at APEX EXPO. It is no secret that the payment process is a huge speed bump for passengers looking to get online in the sky. This week Deutsche Telekom unveiled the latest iteration of its mobile app that reduces the entire process to a swipe and tap on the screen.
