[PHOTOS] Juneyao Airlines Unveils New Dreamliner Seats

Juneyao Airlines has unveiled new images of its upcoming Boeing 787-9 business- and economy-class cabins. The Shanghai-based carrier will equip the business-class section with 29 Thompson Aero’s lie-flat Vantage XL seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Meanwhile, in economy class, Juneyao has opted for Recaro’s CL3710 in a 3-3-3 configuration, with 32 inches of pitch and 12-inch Panasonic Avionics seatback displays.

Vietnam Airlines Sticks With Thales for 787-10s

Vietnam Airlines has selected Thales’ AVANT in-flight entertainment system for eight new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. The deal expands the Vietnamese flag carrier’s partnership with Thales, having already deployed the system on its 787-9s and Airbus A350s. “We are confident that the quality, reliability and advanced technology of our solutions will deliver an exceptional in-flight experience on Vietnam Airlines new Dreamliner,” said Philippe Carette, CEO, Thales InFlyt Experience.

Passengers and Crew Rescued After Air Niugini Flight Crashes

All 47 passengers and crew have been rescued from an Air Niugini flight that crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff from Micronesia’s Chuuk International Airport. The Boeing 737-800 hit the lagoon surrounding the island of Weno at around 9:30 a.m. local time today. The airline said in a statement that weather was poor at the time, with heavy rain and reduced visibility.

Adaptive Launches eReader to Better the IFE Experience for Bookworms

Adaptive Channel, the developer of in-flight entertainment (IFE) and digital press solution ACES, has unveiled a new eReader designed to improve passengers’ in-flight reading experience. The Adaptive Digital Reader offers a modern user interface, intuitive navigation and new UX features, such as the ability to bookmark, a table of contents and a slider/navigation rail. The eReader also integrates usability features familiar to Apple devices users.

Turkish Airlines Adds Premium Dining Options for Long-Haul Flights

Turkish Airlines has launched two new dining services for business-class passengers on long-haul flights. The first of these allows customers to choose their meals online or on Turkish Airlines’ app between one week and 48 hours before scheduled departures. The second service offers long-haul business-class passengers on overnight flights to and from Istanbul the option of dining “at any time they wish during the flight.”

Ozwald Boateng to Design New British Airways Uniforms

British Airways has chosen Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng to design new employee uniforms for the airline. Boateng, who is known for his contemporary approach to British tailoring, will design a collection for BA’s 32,000 staff as part of the airline’s centenary celebrations next year. “New uniforms are a visual representation of investment in our people and we want them to feel proud when they wear the new uniform,” said Alex Cruz, British Airways’ CEO and chairman.

Routehappy and Netflix Team Up to Provide Data on In-Flight Wi-Fi Quality

Routehappy by ATPCO, in partnership with Netflix, is now able to let online travel agents, including Skyscanner, Sabre, Travix and Upside, detail whether flights have Wi-Fi connections that can support movie streaming. Routehappy’s new Wi-Fi categories (e-mail and messaging, basic web browsing, fast web browsing and Netflix streaming) focus on the types of service it enables.. “This data will help passengers make a more informed flight choice according to their needs and expectations,” said Bill Holmes, head of Global Business Development at Netflix.
