Icelandair Abandons WOW Air Takeover

Icelandair confirmed it has dropped its planned takeover of low-cost rival WOW air. The airline’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said the conditions required for the deal weren’t met, adding that “this conclusion is certainly disappointing.” The announcement comes two days after WOW air said its financial projections had significantly worsened since it issued bonds in late September, and that it needs to secure long-term funds. In a message to employees, WOW air founder and CEO Skuli Mogensen said his ambition is for the airline to remain a standalone carrier and that he anticipates “good news” in the near future.
