Plans for the facility were announced last week by Fulcrum BioEnergy, which United Airlines invested $30 million into in 2015, with an option to purchase 15 million gallons of biofuel. According to Aaron Robinson, the airline’s senior manager of Environmental Strategy and Sustainability, it is “fully planning to exercise those rights.” Replacing traditional jet fuel with biofuel is part of the airline’s goal to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050.
