TSA Tests Scanning Technology for More Efficient Passenger Processing

The TSA is testing advanced imaging technology that could make passenger screening more efficient. Travelers can keep their arms at their sides, instead of above their heads, shaving seconds off the procedure – and making the experience more comfortable. The next-gen system is also expected to reduce the number of pat-downs: Individuals can simply adjust their position to be re-scanned if the first attempt doesn't work. Denver International Airport is running trials for 90 days to measure the system’s safety and efficiency, with the possibility of implementing the new technology airport-wide by 2021.
