Air Astana Embraer E190-E2 Fleet to Fly With Bluebox Wow on Board

The Air Astana Embraer E190-E2 that was unveiled last week is the first of five the airline has on order, each of which will be flying with the Bluebox Wow portable wireless in-flight entertainment system. Air Astana will also be deploying the solution in business class on five Airbus A320s. In separate news, Air Astana will be upgrading its 850 Apple iPads from Bluebox Ai to Bluebox Hybrid, which will enable passengers to stream an array of content, as well as access preloaded early-window content from the airline-owned iPads.

Airbus Cooperates With US Authorities Over Corruption Allegations

The United States opened an investigation into allegations of corruption against Airbus, according to an article published by Le Monde today. Airbus could face fines of several billion euros as a result of the case, which dates back to 2016 and involves probes underway in Britain and France. “Airbus is cooperating with the US authorities in close coordination with the (British) SFO and (French) PNF,” the company said in a statement.

Citilink’s First Inmarsat GX Wi-Fi Installation Completed

Citilink’s first Airbus A320 equipped with Inmarsat GX Wi-Fi is now in service, two weeks after the aircraft was grounded for the installation. It is unclear whether the Wi-Fi service is active or in testing mode. During APEX EXPO in September, Inmarsat announced that Citilink committed to a 10-year deal with Mahata Aero Teknologi, GMF AeroAsia (part of Garuda Indonesia Group), Lufthansa Systems and Lufthansa Technik to install Inmarsat’s GX Aviation in-flight broadband service on 50 aircraft.

Gatwick Airport Closes Runway Over Drone Activity

Following reports of drones flying over Gatwick Airport, the runway has been closed and flights have been suspended or canceled while investigations are carried out. “It is against the law to fly a #drone above 400ft or within 1km of an airport boundary,” the UK Department of Transport tweeted. EasyJet, one of the airlines affected by the incident, issued a notice informing customers of canceled flights that they are entitled to transfer free of charge to an alternative flight and hotel if required.

Transparency and Payment Options Are Key When Booking Travel, Study Shows

The majority (66%) of respondents to a survey conducted by ACI Worldwide and YouGov are annoyed by the lack of transparent pricing when booking travel. According to the study, 36% of respondents become frustrated when their preferred method of payment isn’t offered: Credit (36%) and debit (29%) cards are the most popular means to pay for trips, with PayPal representing 17% market share in most countries and across age groups.

Airports Get Festive With Ice Rinks and a Gingerbread Model of LHR

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Munich Airport’s Christmas and Winter Market, which features ice skating, crafts and traditional treats. London Heathrow Airport, meanwhile, is displaying a gingerbread model of the airport. Back across the pond, Denver International Airport also has a skating rink, while Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has outfitted its Snoopy statue with a festive sweater.
