Delta Seeks Partnership With EasyJet Over Alitalia Bid

Delta Air Lines has proposed a partnership with rival Alitalia bidder easyJet, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. The collaboration would involve a less costly contract with the bankrupt airline’s staff, while retaining operational centers at Fiumicino and Malpensa airports. Both Delta and easyJet submitted separate bids for Alitalia in November. The sale is being handled by Ferrovie dello Stato, Italy’s national rail operator. Ferrovie executives met last weekend in Milan to prepare for a possible board meeting on Wednesday, where a partner or partners could be announced.

IAG to Cap Non-EU Shareholder Ownership After Brexit

British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia parent company IAG said it will cap ownership of its shares by non-EU citizens at the current 47.5% level to preserve its status as a European-owned airline. If the UK leaves the EU on March 29 without a deal, airlines that are not majority-owned by EU nationals could lose their right to operate flights within the bloc. IAG said in a statement that it would suspend the voting rights of any shares acquired by non-EU citizens and would require the owner to sell the shares to a third party or to the airline group. However, IAG said UK citizens would be exempt from the cap.

Lufthansa to Appeal “Hidden City Hack” Case

Lufthansa has been given the chance to appeal a court case that ruled in favor of a passenger who the airline accused of deliberately buying a ticket with no intention of flying the second leg of the journey. This tactic, referred to as the “hidden city hack,” involves strategically missing a connecting flight to avoid the higher cost of nonstop journeys. Although multiple airlines include disclaimers in their terms and conditions saying fees may be re-calculated if a passenger fails to complete their full itinerary, websites like Skiplagged have been created to help travelers use the hack. | Related Lufthansa To Lease Air Baltic Airbus A220s From March 2019 – Simple Flying
