Where to Watch Oscar-Nominated Films in the Air

Thanks to streaming and some fortuitous IFE release windows, film fans should be able to catch most titles on the fly well before the Academy Awards telecast on February 24. In what is perhaps a sign of things to come in the digital age, only one of this year’s Best Picture nominees – the Dick Cheney biopic, Vice – is still playing exclusively in theaters right now.

From Virtual to Reality: Qantas Uses VR to Design Singapore Lounge

Qantas is using virtual reality to help it develop a new First Lounge inside Singapore Changi Airport, which is scheduled to open at the end of the year. Industrial designer David Caon has created an immersive virtual reality mockup of the lounge concept to help Qantas preview and fine tune elements of the design. “While we already use VR technology to promote destinations, this is the first time we have used it to better understand a lounge design,” said Qantas International CEO Alison Webster. “Being able to immerse ourselves in a virtual lounge gives us a more accurate sense of space and an understanding of how it will look to scale.”

Air France said its biometric boarding pass solution, currently being trialed at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, will soon enable passengers to proceed from baggage drop-off to boarding without presenting any ID documents. The airline said that “in a few months” it will be able to match a passenger’s biometric data with their image, allowing them to board flights with biometric boarding passes that encode their facial data into a barcode in the Air France smartphone app.

EU Casts Doubt on IAG Brexit Shareholder Plan

A senior European Union official in Brussels has cast doubt on the feasibility of IAG’s plan to consider UK shareholders as EU investors after Brexit. Earlier this week, the British Airways and Iberia parent company said it had put a cap on the number of non-EU investors who can own shares in the event of a no-deal Brexit, but that UK shareholders would be exempt from this cap. The EU official said IAG has not approached the European Commission to discuss its plan.
