Connect Airways Completes Purchase of Flybe

The sale of Flybe’s assets to Connect Airways is now complete following the rejection of an alternative last-minute rescue deal proposed by a US consortium earlier this week. The purchase by Connect Airways, a consortium made up of Stobart Group and Cyrus Capital and led by Virgin Atlantic, will likely signal the beginning of the end for the Flybe brand. When the agreement was first announced, Connect Airways said, “Flybe will be rebranded to Virgin Atlantic.” Flybe services continue to operate as normal.

Spanish Government Welcomes Provisional Post-Brexit Airline Deal

Spain’s government said it welcomes a provisional EU deal meant to ease the impact of a possible no-deal Brexit on the airline industry. Under the deal, subject to approval from EU member states, airlines such as IAG-owned Iberia would be able to continue operating scheduled flights for seven months after the date of application of post-Brexit air traffic regulations. “This is solved, we have been given a moratorium of seven months in the regulation that will be approved, and we are working with the company to find a definitive solution,” said Reyes Maroto, Spain’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
