Air Europa Reveals Details About New Dreamliner Business-Class Cabin

Air Europa has provided details about its forthcoming business-class cabin that will be installed on three new Boeing 787-9s scheduled for delivery before the end of the year and on another 12 over the next five years. The leather-upholstered lie-flat seats will be deployed in a 1-2-1 configuration and will each come with 17-inch seatback displays. The Spanish carrier has not officially confirmed who the seat manufacturer is, but Business Traveller said that reports suggest it is Jamco’s Venture seat. Passengers in the new business-class cabin will also benefit from complimentary Wi-Fi, a new amenity kit and a revamped in-flight menu.

Airbus Might Assemble A330neos in China

Airbus is thinking about assembling its A330neo wide-body jets in China as part of an effort to win more orders for the aircraft in the country. According to Bloomberg, the plan, if approved, would see Airbus expand its existing assembly plant in Tianjin to accommodate the A330neo. The European aerospace manufacturer previously offered to build the A380 in China in exchange for orders from the country’s airlines.

AirAsia Launches Venture Capital Fund in Partnership With 500 Startups

AirAsia today announced it is launching a $60-million venture capital fund in the United States to invest in and support scalable startups in the travel and lifestyle, financial technology, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity sectors that want to enter or expand their presence in Southeast Asia. The Malaysian low-cost carrier’s digital venture arm RedBeat Ventures is launching the fund in partnership with 500 Startups, a San Francisco-based seed stage startup accelerator and venture capital firm.

Will 5G Change In-Flight Connectivity?

Airlines need to start preparing with their suppliers for the critical mass adoption of 5G technologies on the ground, said Philippe Combe, a product manager specializing in mobile for SITAONAIR. Speaking to Runway Girl Network, he said SITAONAIR is working to develop 5G-ready future-proof solutions that also support existing networks such as 3G and 4G. “We want to provide equipment on the aircraft that can support existing technology and also coming technology,” he said, adding the biggest change in a 5G world will be to support the demands of Internet of Things-enabled devices, which “will need multiple connections.”

GOL Brands Cabin Monuments With Resin

Brazilian low-cost carrier GOL Linhas Aereas (GOL) has revealed some new branding inside its Boeing 737 and 737 MAX cabins. Designed, manufactured and installed by Italian cabin branding specialist, ABC International, the front of the cabins now feature a milled aluminum GOL logo as well as a resin script to highlight the airline’s new in-flight Wi-Fi service. “It was pretty challenging to overcome all the certification issues for resin use on the monument,” stated Alberto D’Ambrosio, CEO of ABC International.

Laudamotion Flight Aborts Takeoff at Stansted

On March 1, a Laudamotion flight bound for Vienna suffered an aborted takeoff at Stansted Airport due to a suspected engine problem with the Airbus A320-200, resulting in the temporary suspension of all flights. A spokesperson for the airport said the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. and that all passengers were evacuated safely, with eight suffering minor injuries. The runway was reopened after approximately three hours. The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch sent a team to Stansted to look into the incident.
