Qatar Details Plans to Enhance Economy Class

Qatar Airways unveiled a new economy-class seat and enhancements to its overall economy-class experience during the first day of ITB Berlin. Capable of a 19-degree recline, the new seat features 13.3-inch 4K in-flight entertainment screens and USB-C power outlets for fast charging. It will enter service with the airline’s A321neo fleet. In April, Qatar Airways will begin the rollout of a new dining concept, called Quisine, across its fleet, offering passengers larger portion sizes and an increased choice of meal options.

High Tea: British Airways to Launch New First-Class Products and Services

British Airways will introduce several product and service changes to its first-class cabins starting April 7. The UK carrier said its new menus will use fresh seasonal ingredients “of British provenance,” served on bone china crockery designed by tableware designer William Edwards. Drinks served on Dartington glassware and “signature” afternoon tea service will also be introduced. British Airways will also offer loungewear and amenity kits by luxury brand Temperley London.

Southwest Airlines Partners With Netflix Docuseries About Being Kind to Strangers

Southwest Airlines has launched a partnership with Netflix documentary series The Kindness Diaries, about protagonist Leon and his mission of spreading kindness to unsuspecting strangers. The collaboration means the Dallas-based carrier’s passengers will be able stream the first season of The Kindness Diaries to their personal devices in flight and access exclusive behind-the-scenes content. “The Kindness Diaries is a perfect show for us to partner with because it aligns to the values that have been at the core of Southwest from the beginning,” Southwest spokesperson, Alyssa Foster told APEX Media.

JetBlue Wants to Launch Transatlantic Flights to London

JetBlue is considering launching transatlantic routes from New York and Boston to London. Speaking to the Independent, CEO Robin Hayes said, “What jetBlue has always done since we started nearly 20 years ago is bring low fares with a better service, and we’d love to bring that to Europe,” adding that the airline is “actively looking at it now.” Hayes also revealed that jetBlue would operate transatlantic flights using narrow-body Airbus A321LRs. Last year at the London Aviation Festival, Hayes hinted in a video interview with APEX Media that jetBlue would consider launching Mint-style transatlantic business-class flights.

American Airlines and Hyatt Partner for Loyalty Scheme Benefits

American Airlines and Hyatt have partnered to offer mutual benefits across their respective loyalty programs.. As part of the agreement, AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum and ConciergeKey members will gain a bonus mile for every eligible dollar spent at qualifying Hyatt hotels. "This is really a win for elite members in both loyalty programs," said World of Hyatt senior vice-president Amy Weinberg. “Status, and the ability to earn it, is something that we know really matters to our members.”

Explosive Devices Found at Two London Airports

Improvised explosive devices were found yesterday at Heathrow Airport, London City Airport and Waterloo train station. The London Metropolitan Police service’s counter-terrorism command launched an investigation after packages were sent to each of the three transport hubs. Irish police are assisting with the investigation after it emerged that at least two of the packages had Republic of Ireland postage stamps. An Irish security source said “violent dissident republicans” were the most likely source of the explosive devices.

JAL Selects LSG Sky Chefs to Manage Frankfurt Lounges

Japan Airlines (JAL) has selected LSG Sky Chefs Lounge (LSG Lounge) to manage its Sakura and First Class lounges at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 2. LSG Lounge said it paid special attention to ensuring Japanese culture and the airline's international identity “are both clearly perceived by the guests.” Jean-Claude Dichtl, LSG Lounge’s director for Operations and Projects said, “It is very important for us to understand the airline's heritage and brand values and reflect them in our concept.”
