[PHOTOS] Virgin Atlantic Reveals A350 Cabin Interiors

Virgin Atlantic hosted a special event at its base in Crawley, UK, yesterday to give guests a first look at the interior of its upcoming Airbus A350 fleet. APEX Media was among the select few to view the aircraft’s new Upper Class seat, which features 18.5-inch screens, adjustable mood lighting and a privacy shield, as well as a life-sized mockup of The Loft – the largest of the airline’s social spaces in business class.

[VIDEO] STG Launches saf-Tsign blu

The new saf-Tsign blu offering from STG Aerospace marks the first time ever that aircraft signage – whether emergency, informational and/or custom – will be available in blue as well as the traditional green. During a video interview with APEX Media director Maryann Simson at Aircraft Interiors Expo last week, head of Global Marketing for STG Aerospace Ruth Williams explains how this will positively impact airlines and their passengers.

In-Flight Bluetooth Headset Pairing Coming to a Plane Near You

Safran showcased the latest generation of its RAVE Ultra IFE platform, which enables Bluetooth pairing for wireless headsets, at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg last week. In an effort to reduce potential radio-frequency interference from the devices of nearby passengers, Safran narrowed the Bluetooth range to just over one meter. The new RAVE Ultra system has seven confirmed customers, with first shipsets to be delivered to seating manufacturers for integration in Q3 2019 and to enter service on flights in Q3 2020.

American Airlines Extends 737 Max Flight Cancellations Until June

American Airlines announced on Sunday that it would be canceling approximately 90 flights per day through to June 5, as its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft remain grounded. The airline grounded its fleet of 24 737 MAX jets after two recent fatal crashes involving Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines aircraft. “By proactively canceling these flights, we are able to provide better service to our customers with availability and rebooking options,” the airline said in a statement.

Dubai Airport Now Has Resident DJs

Dubai-based DJ group Hollaphonic performed their first two-hour set at Dubai International Airport last Thursday. Several stages have been set up around the airport so the musicians can move around to different terminals depending on traveler flow. The airport plans on continuing to host these performances, which will also feature other DJs from Dubai and, eventually, international talent.

RRJ Capital Completes Acquisition of gategroup

RRJ Capital is now the sole shareholder of gategroup, having acquired all outstanding shares from HNA Group, after announcing the deal earlier this month. Gategroup also announced last week that its subsidiaries Gate Gourmet and gateretail will provide culinary and retail services to Air Europa for six years, starting January 1, 2020. Gategroup has also partnered with Airbus to support an end-to-end digital catering process.

Viasat Opens Mexico Office

Viasat has opened an office in Mexico City less than one year after entering the Mexican market. “Mexico is an important market for us. Opening our new office is a necessary step to build our presence in the country and support current initiatives as well as potential future services,” commented Rick Baldridge, Viasat’s president and COO. In September 2018, Viasat announced that Aeroméxico had selected its in-flight connectivity service to provide optimized Internet experiences to passengers and crew.

The Call for Session Proposals to speak at APEX EXPO in September closes on Friday 12 April. We’re looking for new and/or significant information and will review each submission based on: creativity and appeal, cutting-edge information and expertise of the speaker.  You must fill out the entire online form and submit a bio to be considered. Be sure to submit your proposal by Friday to be considered to speak at our largest annual event!

 
 

APEX Members and Their Families Can Apply for the IFSA Scholarship

We’re thrilled to have funded a scholarship through the IFSA Foundation for 2019. These scholarships are available to APEX members and their families as well as those pursuing an industry-related professional degree in the airline passenger experience industry. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000. Submit an application by 10 May 2019.
