[VIDEO] Inflight VR Begins New Trial With Korean LCC Jin Air

Inflight VR is deploying 10 of its virtual reality in-flight entertainment headsets on board Jin Air flights between Seoul and Da Nang, Vietnam, with a view to rolling out the platform across the South Korean low-cost carrier’s entire fleet once the trial period ends in May. APEX Media attended the 2019 Crystal Cabin Award (CCA) ceremony on Tuesday, April 2, which took place at the iconic Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Following the ceremony, which was hosted by director of APEX Media Maryann Simson for the third year running, APEX produced a short video celebrating the 2019 CCA winners. Emirates Completes Boeing 777-200LR Fleet Revamp

Emirates has completed a $150 million revamp of its fleet of 10 Boeing 777-200LRs. The retrofit process included the removal of first-class seating from the aircraft with wider business-class seats added in a 2-2-2 layout. Four out of six seats in each row in the new business-class cabin benefit from direct-aisle access. Emirates also installed an all-new economy-class cabin on each aircraft to replace the older economy seats.

Trump Suggests Boeing 737 MAX Should Change Its Name

President Donald Trump suggested that Boeing should rebrand the 737 MAX with a new name, after American Airlines announced on Sunday that it is canceling 115 daily flights through mid-August. “If I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 MAX, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name,” Trump tweeted on Monday morning. The American Airlines announcement follows a similar decision by Southwest Airlines last week to cancel 737 MAX flights until August 5. American’s cancellations represent 1.5% of its total flights each day throughout the summer.

Jet Airways Fails to Secure Emergency Credit

Jet Airways has failed to obtain emergency funding from its lenders. The Indian carrier suspended all international flights last week and has extended the cancellation period until Thursday. The airline was, until recently, India’s second largest by market share and now has debts of more than $1.2 billion. Jet Airways had been operating 600 domestic and 380 international routes.

Global Eagle Deal Will See Passengers Look for Carmen Sandiego in Flight

Global Eagle has signed a licensing agreement with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a Boston-based publisher of educational content, to add Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? to its in-flight entertainment content portfolio. The agreement means Global Eagle will offer an optimized-for-travel video game based on the TV franchise to the airline and maritime markets later this year.

Vision-Box to Deploy Biometric Boarding Gates at JFK’s T1

Vision-Box will deploy one of largest biometric technology rollouts in the United States at New York’s JFK International Airport. Once in place, the self-service biometric boarding platform means travelers at JFK’s Terminal 1 won’t need to show their passports or boarding passes at the departure gate. “We are proud to pilot this unique, paperless, biometric boarding process, and US Customs and Border Protection and Vision-Box have been tremendous partners in this effort,” said Steve Rowland, executive director of the Terminal One Group Association.
