ICAO Comments on Cyberattacks Cover-Up

Speaking at a meeting in Washington,DC, on May 7, US ambassador to ICAO Thomas Carter said that members of the group’s permanent Council had only recently learned the organization’s IT system had been compromised “for quite some time” following a November 2016 hack and subsequent cover-up. The story was first reported by CBC in February 2019, and Carter said without that article, the Council reps “would not have known about the inadequate response to the hacks and the immense harm they inflicted on ICAO’s IT systems.”
