Royal Jordanian Launches Bluebox Wow Wireless IFE

Royal Jordanian launched a new wireless in-flight entertainment service on Sunday. Sky Connect is powered by Bluebox Aviation Systems’ Bluebox Wow wireless IFE system and allows passengers flying on the airline’s four Airbus A319s and six A320 aircraft to stream movies and TV shows to their personal devices. The Jordanian flag carrier’s selection of content also includes music, games and airline information.

Lufthansa Launches Geven Seat on New Airbus A321neo

Lufthansa has launched a new short- and medium-haul seat on its first Airbus A321neo. Designed by Geven, the seat will be introduced across three Lufthansa Group carriers: Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. The slimline seat offers more personal space, with 20 degrees of recline in economy class and 26 degrees in business class. Each row of seats features USB ports and tray tables with tablet holders. The A321neo is configured with 24 seats in business class and 191 in economy class.

Singapore Airlines Selects Media Carrier to Supply Digital Newspapers and Magazines

Singapore Airlines has selected Media Carrier to provide passengers with a selection of international digital newspapers and magazines via the airline’s mobile app. The agreement went into effect on October 1, 2018, but the details have not been publicly disclosed until now. “We are delighted that Singapore Airlines is the first Asian airline to join Media Carrier’s client portfolio,” said Philipp J. Jacke, Media Carrier’s managing director. “Our profound expertise and wide range of premium publications, including many Asian ones, enabled us to convince a major player in the aviation sector of our services.”

Air New Zealand Orders Eight Boeing 787-10s

Air New Zealand announced it will order eight Boeing 787-10s, worth $2.7 billion at list prices, to replace its fleet of 777-200ERs. The deal also includes options for an additional 12 787s. Deliveries of the 787-10s will take place between 2022 and 2027. “The 787-10 we will receive is not only a natural candidate for our destinations across Asia, but it will also be a great link for New Zealand linking it to the east coast of America as well,” said Air New Zealand CEO Christopher Luxon.

Mexico’s Environment Minister Resigns After Holding Up Aeroméxico Flight

Mexico’s environment minister has resigned after forcing an Aeroméxico flight to be delayed by 38 minutes. Josefa González Blanco was due to fly from Mexico City to Mexicali last Friday, but she was held up for undisclosed reasons. According to Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the minister then asked an Aeroméxico executive to ground the flight until she arrived. González Blanco published a resignation letter in which she apologized for contravening efforts to improve behavior among public officials. “There is no justification,” she wrote. “Mexico’s true transformation requires absolute consistency with the values of fairness and justice.”

Qantas Is Selling Premium Flights on Airbnb for a Limited Time

Qantas is discretely selling first-class tickets on Airbnb for as little as $20. However, there’s a catch. The flights can only be redeemed with Qantas Points and will only be visible to Australian users of the Airbnb app. One flight per day is being hidden on Airbnb for a total of 14 days from May 24. Some of the already uncovered deals include two first-class seats from Melbourne to LA for 50,000 Qantas Points and and two business-class seats from Sydney to London for 50,000 Qantas Points.

All Major US Carriers Sign Up to UN-Backed Climate Plan

All major US airlines and most smaller carriers have signed up to a United Nations plan designed to mitigate climate change. The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which is independent of the Paris Agreement, caps emissions at 2020 levels and is administered by the ICAO. CORSIA is intended to become mandatory after 2027 and aims to encourage airlines to buy more fuel-efficient aircraft.
