[PHOTOS] Turkish Airlines Reveals 787-9 Interior

Turkish Airlines has released images of the new cabin interior on board its first Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which is due to enter service on July 8, 2019. Designed by London-based studio Priestmangoode, the business-class cabin features Stelia Aerospace’s Aurora seats, offering passengers increased privacy, larger in-flight entertainment screens and more stowage space than the carrier’s previous business-class cabin. Wave motifs, which are already part of the airport experience at the airline’s new Istanbul Airport hub, are featured across the 787-9’s seating, monuments, blankets and cabin crew uniforms.

Lufthansa Announces Plans for Eurowings Overhaul

Lufthansa has said budget carrier Eurowings will have cut costs by 15% by 2022, in the hope of returning to profit. As part of a broader turnaround plan, Eurowings will also focus on short-haul flights operated by a standardized Airbus A320-family fleet to boost productivity. Lufthansa has said Brussels Airlines will not be integrated into Eurowings, and that a turnaround plan for the Belgian flag carrier will be announced in the third quarter of 2019.

Seamless Air Alliance to Have Specifications Ready in 2020

The Seamless Air Alliance (SAA) expects to have specifications for its system by the end of 2020, at which time Scandinavian Airlines will begin the certification process. “We’re just writing the spec that will allow open architecture systems deployment,” said SAA’s CEO Jack Mandala. “We’ve broken down the in-flight connectivity systems into what we call functional blocks and are defining standard interfaces between those blocks.” With the certification system, an airline buying any of the functional blocks, like a new modem or antenna, will be able to automatically connect to other functional blocks.

Etraveli Acquires TripStack

Swedish online travel agency group Etraveli has acquired TripStack, a Toronto-based airline distribution tech company, to become a provider of flight and airline ancillary content to third parties on a white-label basis. TripStack has a product that aggregates fares from low-cost carriers that may not be available via traditional distribution channels, as well as a product called TripBuilder that specializes in virtual interlining (combining flight segments from low-cost carriers and full-service airlines even when they don’t have formal agreements with one another). According to Skift, virtual interlining expands the map of destinations travelers can reach, often at lower fares.

From USB Type-C to Wireless Charging: Future In-Seat Power Trends

A recent report by Valour Consultancy explores in-seat power trends over the next decade. APEX Media spoke with Craig Foster, senior consultant and cofounder of Valour, to learn about the various power options coming to the fore. “USB outlets accounted for about 56% of total deliveries in 2018. By 2028, this will increase to 86%,” Foster said.

New Perks for Cathay Pacific Passengers

The South China Morning Post has reported that first-class passengers will soon be provided with an upgraded mattress topper, while business-class passengers will see the introduction of a mattress topper and slippers on long-haul flights from October 2019. An overhaul of the airline’s in-flight entertainment offering is also supposedly in the works. A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said, “As part of our promise to ‘move beyond’ for our customers, we will be introducing an enhanced business-class experience later this year. More details will be announced soon.”

Alpha LSG to Move to Larger Premises in Manchester, UK

Alpha LSG is moving to a 102,500 square-foot facility at the ICON Manchester Airport City site, doubling the size of its current premises. The new building will be certified by BREEAM, the world’s leading sustainability assessment method. CEO of Alpha LSG Alex Forbes commented, “We see this as an opportunity to launch lots of new improved initiatives across our entire network such as agile working, wellbeing in the workplace and interactive communications to name but a few.”
