Air Canada Redesigns enRoute Media Brand

Air Canada has unveiled a new design and website for its in-flight magazine, enRoute. The website aims to create a stronger digital presence for the brand by making article extensions, companion stories and digital-only extras, such as audio and video content, available online. “We feel that if we’re trying to be one of the world’s best airlines, we certainly want to have one of the world’s best media brands and best in-flight magazines,” said Anton Vidgen, Air Canada’s brand experience director and APEX vice-president.

ThinKom Completes First Phased-Array Antenna With LEO Satellite

ThinKom Solutions announced it has completed the first live test of a commercially available phased-array antenna with Telesat’s Phase 1 low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite. The test was performed using a production model of ThinKom’s Ka2517 aeronautical satellite communications antenna. “The aeronautical market is important for Telesat and these on-air tests highlight the advantages the Telesat LEO satellite constellation will bring to passengers and crew of major airlines worldwide,” said Erwin Hudson, vice-president, Telesat LEO.

Delta to Revamp International Economy-Class Menu

Delta Air Lines will revamp its onboard menu for economy-class passengers on international flights, starting in November. Passengers will be offered a complimentary cocktail made of sparkling wine and peach purée prior to takeoff. A bistro-style menu will include a selection of new dishes and appetizers, such as harissa shrimp. Dessert will be served separately after the main meal. “This is about investing in every single customer who chooses Delta, no matter where they sit on the plane,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s SVP for In-flight Service.

Aeroméxico Shows Off New Uniforms

Aeroméxico’s new female and male flight attendant uniforms, created by Mexican designer Lorena Saravia, are navy blue with a black line on the back in the style of a tuxedo. Saravia said she listened to “the needs of Aeroméxico flight attendants” to design comfortable and functional pieces. The new attire was introduced on July 1 and will be used for the next five years.

KLM Launches “Fly Responsibly” Campaign

KLM has launched a new campaign that aims to address the environmental impact of air travel. The “Fly Responsibly” campaign includes a microsite and a video published on the airline’s YouTube account, which asks viewers: "Do you always have to meet face-to-face? Could you take the train instead?" The campaign comes amid the emergence of an anti-flying movement that originated among groups of environmental activists from countries in Northern Europe. The campaign’s website highlights KLM’s sustainability initiatives including the development of a sustainable fuel plant and carbon offsets.

British Airways’ First Airbus A350 Completes Maiden Flight

British Airways’ first Airbus A350-1000 took off on its maiden flight from Toulouse, yesterday. The airline has 18 A350s on order, which will gradually replace its existing fleet of Boeing 747-400s by 2024. BA will also launch its new Club World business-class product on board the A350s, with 56 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. The World Traveller Plus premium economy cabin will feature 56 seats and a total of 219 seats will occupy the economy-class cabin.
