United Is Aiming to Make In-Flight Wi-Fi Free

United Airlines hopes to eventually offer its in-flight Wi-Fi service for free. During an earnings call last Wednesday, United’s president Scott Kirby said the carrier has spent the past year improving its in-flight connectivity software and hardware, but did not reveal a timeline for when the airline plans to stop charging for access. “We've seen a 20% improvement in customer satisfaction for Wi-Fi and our compensation refund rates are down around two-thirds because the system is just more reliable,” Kirby said.
