Air France Launches France 24 Live TV on Medium-Haul Flights

Air France is now offering passengers complimentary access to France 24. The TV news channel became available on July 19 on all of the airline’s medium-haul flights equipped with the wireless Air France CONNECT in-flight entertainment platform. Air France also offers a selection of France 24 documentaries and programming on long-haul flights.

Cathay Pacific Completes Acquisition of Hong Kong Express

Cathay Pacific completed its takeover of Hong Kong Express Airways and has appointed Ronald Lam as CEO of the low-cost carrier. HK Express is now a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific and will continue to operate as a standalone airline. “There will be more value fares and more destinations available to travelers,” said Cathay Pacific CEO Rupert Hogg. “We look forward to working with the HK Express teams to ensure a smooth transition and to continue to grow the airline in order to better serve its customers.”

Astronics CSC Opens Manufacturing Facility in Illinois

Astronics Connectivity Systems and Certifications (CSC) opened a new office and manufacturing facility in Waukegan, Illinois. The company said the new facility will enable the expansion of its manufacturing capacity and certification services. “Astronics CSC now has the ability to develop, produce and certify products all within one location, which enables a faster, more efficient production process to satisfy customer product needs,” said Michael Kuehn, president of Astronics CSC.

Fiji Airways Launches Premium Pre-Flight Dining

Fiji Airways has launched a new dining service for premium customers at its flagship Premier Lounge at Nadi International Airport in Fiji. The airline is introducing the “Dine on the Ground” service for passengers on morning and late evening flights. The lounge will serve an à la carte brunch with made-to-order breakfast items, a full bakery selection, fresh fruit juices, barista-pulled coffee and an evening dinner featuring “signature dishes designed by Fiji Airways executive in-house and guest chefs.”

Heathrow Unveils Tapestry in Partnership With Royal Botanic Gardens

London’s Heathrow Airport has partnered with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to unveil a handmade botanical tapestry depicting global flora. The tapestry, which is on display in Terminal 2 for the next six weeks, was created to mark the milestone of raising $31,000 for Kew’s efforts to conserve the world’s plant life. The textile measures 129 square feet and took more than 520 hours to weave.

40 Success Stories: When Asinc Created the First Moving Map

Airshow, the airline industry’s first moving map product, was created in the early 1980s after K-C Aviation’s Dutch Arvor provided feedback to Asinc on its product, which at the time displayed groundspeed and altitude. According to Asinc’s Rich Salter, “He basically said, “You are all ex-Rockwell Collins engineers. You’ve got a general-purpose video display with all that capability – surely you can come up with something more interesting than text... Like a map or something.” The 40 Success Stories campaign celebrates APEX members’ most significant achievements in the lead-up to the 40th anniversary of APEX EXPO this September.
