Sport 24 Broadcasts Live In-Flight Stream of Fortnite World Cup

Sport 24 has secured the in-flight broadcast rights for the first Fortnite World Cup, which starts today until July 28 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. More than 15 hours of live competitive esports will be broadcast on Sport 24 Extra. “Fortnite is recognized as a global phenomenon and we are excited to be broadcasting live coverage to passengers across the full three days,” said Richard Wise, IMG Media’s SVP of Channels and Content.

Latécoère Acquires Part of IFE Hardware Company

Latécoère has acquired the monitor business of Aircraft Cabin Systems (ACS), which includes more than 100 certifications for in-flight entertainment. ACS’ monitors range from six to 80 inches in size, featuring both HD and 4K resolutions. “This transaction allows us to complete our product range in the aircraft cabin sector, while strengthening our footprint in the US, as close as possible to our customers,” said Yannick Assouad, CEO of Latécoère.

JAL Unveils Redesigned Uniforms and Tokyo Summer Olympic Games Livery

Japan Airlines (JAL) unveiled new employee uniforms that will be worn starting April 2020. The new designs, which were selected by a staff committee, include the main elements of JAL’s existing attire, but will “improve functionality.” The uniforms were created by Japanese designer Yasutoshi Ezumi, who used a hybrid technique combining different materials. JAL also unveiled a special livery on two of its aircraft for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo that features the games’ official mascots.

One Thousand Plus Protesters Descend Upon Hong Kong International Airport

More than 1,000 protesters calling for democracy converged today on Hong Kong International Airport. Authorities said operations wouldn’t be affected, but travelers have been advised to arrive earlier to avoid the risk of disruption. Some protesters, wearing helmets and seated on the ground of the arrivals hall, held placards with demands for the government to withdraw a controversial extradition bill that would allow Hong Kong citizens to be tried in mainland China.

SITA Deploys Self-Service Kiosks at New Buenos Aires Airport Terminal

SITA is installing self-service kiosks and a bag-drop system at Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport’s new departure terminal, which is scheduled to open in October. The 34 check-in and 20 Scan&Fly bag-drop kiosks are laid out in islands to allow travelers to check in from the same area and reduce wait times. “Using self-service check-in kiosks, airports can cut passenger processing times by 25%. We’ve also seen passengers dropping off their baggage in just 20 seconds, using the Scan&Fly kiosks,” said Elbson Quadros, SITA’s vice-president for Latin America.

PIC Wire & Cable Unveils CAT7 Ethernet Aircraft Cables

PIC Wire & Cable launched a new Ethernet cable that can deliver up to 10G of data in difficult environments in aircraft. The company says its CAT7 Ethernet DataMATES cables are intended for rugged environments that require low loss interconnect solutions such as cabin management systems. “CAT7 cables are engineered to perform at higher frequencies [600 MHz], while still providing 10G data speeds,” said Eric Witkowski, a product specialist at PIC Wire & Cable. “Our cables are designed with individually shielded pairs to greatly reduce the amount of pair-to-pair signal interference and protect the 10G performance.”

40 Success Stories: When TAP Air Portugal Recreated Its 1970s PaxEx

TAP Air Portugal’s “retrojet” was an exercise in surprising and delighting passengers. In 2017, the carrier unveiled Portugal, an A330 aircraft rebranded with the 1970s TAP livery in a throwback that touched every element of the passenger experience, from the in-flight entertainment – think Rocky and Janis Joplin – to the in-flight menu.
