Chinese Airlines May Opt for 5G ATG In-Flight Connectivity Over Satellite-Based Solutions

In-flight connectivity companies have succeeded in drafting agreements with Chinese government authorities for satellite-supplied IFC services in Chinese airspace. But it's possible that a high-capacity, high-speed 5G air-to-ground (ATG) infrastructure will be key to offering connectivity to a greater number of passengers in China, according to a report by Valour Consultancy.

Ryanair Mitigates 737 MAX Woes With Ancillary Revenue Increase

Ryanair recorded $900 million in ancillary revenue during the second quarter of this year. This represents a 27% increase compared to last year’s figures during the same period, helping to partially offset the impact of the worldwide grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and the uncertainty surrounding Brexit. The European low-cost carrier’s ancillary sales are growing twice as fast as its passenger numbers, with money coming from new products that charge customers to use overhead bins or sit in certain seats.
