Turkish Airlines Interested in Buying Virgin Australia Stake, Reports Bloomberg

Turkish Airlines is interested in acquiring HNA Group’s minority stake in Virgin Australia, according to Bloomberg. However, the Turkish flag carrier denied it wants to buy a 20% stake in the Australian airline, saying the reports “do not reflect the truth.” Singapore Airlines and Nanshan Capital, which each control about one-fifth of Virgin Australia’s shares, were also among the companies considering a bid, Bloomberg stated, citing people familiar with the matter who chose not to be named.

Qatar Airways Exec Says LEO Satellites Will “Probably Disrupt” IFC

The influx of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites will dramatically change the in-flight connectivity market, according to Ashi Hoseini, Qatar Airways’ manager of Electronic Flight Bag Systems. “LEO satellites are a new and growing technology and like any new technology, they will have an impact and will probably disrupt the market,” she said in an interview with Via Satellite. “These satellites are cheaper to build and will open up possibilities for other type of players and solutions.”

Virgin Atlantic Expands Its Mindfulness Partnership With Headspace

Virgin Atlantic has started offering Sleep by Headspace to help passengers, crew, pilots and staff minimize jet lag and travel-related stress. Sleep by Headspace launched worldwide in September 2018 and consists of “Sleepcasts” designed to help create conditions for healthy and restful sleep. The airline will offer six of Headspace’s most popular Sleepcasts, each of which is narrated by a soothing voice to guide listeners into a sleepy state. Virgin Atlantic first offered Headspace’s guided meditation content as part of its in-flight entertainment in 2011.

BA Unveils Report Into What Passengers Want the Future of Flying to Look Like

British Airways asked people across the world about what they would like commercial air travel to look like in 20, 40, 60 and 100 years. Assembled by Foresight Factory, a data-led trends agency, the BA 2119: Flight of the Future report found that respondents want far more personalization from their air travel experience. Overall, 46% said they want a dedicated communal space for socializing. However, this idea was most popular with travelers in emerging market countries (India 69%, China 55% and South Africa 47%Brazil 47%,).

Air France Rolls Out Michelin-Starred Meals for First- and Business-Class Passengers

Air France unveiled new onboard meals created by Michelin-starred chefs for first- and business-class customers. Starting this month until October, first-class passengers will have a choice of dishes created by three-time Michelin-starred French chef Régis Marcon, followed by Emmanuel Renaut’s culinary creations from November through February 2020. From now until October, business-class passengers will be able to choose from chef Guy Martin’s menu succeeded by a menu created by Andrée Rosier in the following three months.

Gatwick Airport Adds Biometric Gates for UK and Ireland Arrivals

London’s Gatwick Airport has opened a new biometric arrivals facility inside its South Terminal building for travelers arriving on flights from destinations in Ireland and the UK and Channel Islands. Previously, passengers arriving on flights from within the Common Travel Area had to be coached after disembarking to a special baggage reclaim area to ensure segregation from international travelers, who are required to pass through immigration control.
