SmartSky Networks Partners With Mosaic ATM to Expand Skytelligence

SmartSky Networks announced a partnership with Mosaic ATM, with the aim of improving SmartSky’s Skytelligence open marketplace and framework infrastructure. SmartSky said Mosaic has provided it with expertise to expand and refine its Skytelligence concept, which will now be open to service developers and will be able to connect to aviation applications. “To catalyze aviation’s digital transformation, our Skytelligence open marketplace enables companies to access and share aviation, flight, weather data, operations data and more,” said Haynes Griffin, SmartSky’s chairman and CEO. “Mosaic is a critical partner in the creation of this application development infrastructure.”

JetSuiteX Rebrands as “JSX”

JetSuiteX has rebranded under the new name of “JSX” and announced plans to position itself as a “hop-on jet service.” Now in its fourth year of operations, JSX offers soundproofed interiors, complimentary premium cocktails and at least 36 inches of pitch on board its fleet of Embraer ERJ135 and ERJ145s. “As we continue to grow, it’s important we not only distinguish ourselves uniquely as a brand, but as a new type of travel solution that is focused on creating ‘Joyful, Simple Xperiences’ every time you fly – and which is now clearly reflected in our new name ‘JSX’,” said Alex Wilcox, JSX’s CEO.

Google to Refund Customers if Flight Price Drops

Google announced new features to help users of its services plan trips, including one which will indicate whether the price of flights and accommodations is high, low or normal for a specific itinerary. It will also display how the average price of a flight has changed in the previous months and will notify users if it predicts that the price will change. For select itineraries booked between now and September 2, Google will refund the difference if the price of a flight drops. The feature is available for select domestic and international itineraries originating from destinations in the US.

Generation Global Secures EASA Approval

Generation Global became the first New Zealand-based aircraft interiors firm to obtain Production Organization Approval (POA) from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The company received the certification after a one-year process of assessment conducted by experts based in Germany. Generation Global said it applied for the POA in an effort to reduce lead times and certification costs for its commercial aircraft customers.

Hong Kong International Airport Suspends Flights for a Second Day

Anti-government protestors continued to disrupt operations at Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday, suspending flights for a second day. The airport issued a statement on its website advising travelers to leave terminal buildings “as soon as possible” and said affected customers should contact their respective airlines to arrange alternative flights. Carrie Lam, the territory’s chief executive, said that violence was pushing Hong Kong in a dangerous direction. “Violence, no matter if it’s using violence or condoning violence, will push Hong Kong down a path of no return,” she said.

JetBlue Launches Cross-Platform Marketing Campaign

JetBlue launched a new marketing campaign called “Just Alright Doesn’t Fly Here.” The cross-platform media campaign is designed to “shine a much-needed spotlight on the complacency that’s become an all too common part of the airline experience,” said Elizabeth Windram, JetBlue’s vice-president of Marketing, adding that it will “show those who haven’t traveled with us before that there’s a better way to fly.” In a nod to the Wright Brothers, the campaign is based around two fictional characters, “The Alright Brothers,” with ads positioned on TV, social media, radio, music-streaming services and digital displays.
