[PHOTOS] Air Canada Unveils Airbus A220 Cabin Interiors

Air Canada unveiled the cabin interiors for its forthcoming fleet of Airbus A220-300s. The aircraft will have 12 business-class seats in a 2-2 configuration and 125 economy-class seats – the widest in the airline’s fleet – in a 3-2 configuration. Passengers in both cabins will have access to Panasonic Avionics’ eX1 seatback in-flight entertainment system and Wi-Fi connectivity. Air Canada also announced that nonstop services between Montreal and Seattle, and Toronto and San Jose will be the first two A220 routes, starting in the spring of 2020.

Ural Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Bird Strike

A Ural Airlines Airbus A321 was forced to land in a cornfield shortly after takeoff, injuring 23 people. Flight 178 collided with a flock of gulls after leaving Zhukovsky International Airport near Moscow, resulting in severe damage to the aircraft’s engines. “Thanks to the professionalism of pilots and the crew, there were no serious injuries and damages among the passengers,” Russia’s Health Ministry said in a statement. The A321 had 226 passengers and seven crew on board and was bound for Simferopol, Crimea.

ThinKom Unveils “Array of Arrays” Gateway Antenna

ThinKom Solutions unveiled a new land-based gateway concept designed to accommodate current and next generation low-Earth orbit (LEO) and medium-Earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellations. The company, which describes the solution as an “array of arrays” gateway antenna, said it will serve as a “superior alternative to the large ‘antenna farms’ of parabolic dishes currently used for support of geostationary (GEO) satellites.” The solution is based on ThinKom’s phased-array technology, which is used on more than 1,300 commercial aircraft.

Sabre Plans to Push Ahead With Farelogix Acquisition, Despite Potential DOJ Block

Sabre said it would go ahead with its acquisition of Farelogix, despite the transaction being held up by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), nine months after the $360-million deal was first proposed. “Over the past nine months, we believe we have done all we can to address the DOJ’s concerns,” said Sean Menke, president and CEO of Sabre. “While we hope the DOJ will ultimately recognize that this transaction is pro-competitive, we are prepared to vigorously defend the deal in court if necessary.”

Finnair Selects Magnetic MRO to Refurbish ATR 72s

Finnair signed a contract with Magnetic MRO, which will provide interior refurbishment, maintenance and new paint work for its 12 ATR 72s, operated by Norra, the airline’s regional subsidiary. The turboprop fleet will receive a full refurbishment, including painting of overhead bins, attendant seats, galleys, bin doors, stairs and linings. Acro’s Series 3 ST+ seats will also be installed as part of the cabin refresh program.

Belfast International Implements Veovo Solutions

Belfast International Airport has adopted Veovo’s next-generation R8 Revenue Management and Passenger Engagement applications. Both applications form part of the company’s Predictive Collaboration Platform for optimized airport operations. Veovo said the revenue management application will automate the airport’s end-to-end billing cycle and will provide flexibility to support airline contracts. The passenger engagement solution will support the airport’s communications with passengers, including flight display screens that can offer content tailored by location and traveler needs.
