American Airlines to Amend Short-Haul First-Class Product After Complaints

American Airlines will make adjustments to its first-class cabin by adding more legroom, extra in-seat power and other amenities. The upgrades are being made after passengers complained about the product on certain retrofitted short-haul aircraft, including limited below-seat storage and a lack of USB outlets. “We are modifying certain things in the first class of that aircraft that, when we originally rolled it out, were not done properly,” said Derek Kerr, American Airlines’ chief financial officer.

Portuguese charter airline Hi Fly revealed the interiors of its soon-to-be-delivered Airbus A330-900neo. The wide-body aircraft features Airbus’ Airspace interiors, with a business-class cabin that includes three rows of lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration.. The economy-class seats are in a 3-3-3 layout, with Safran (formerly Zodiac) Rave seatback in-flight entertainment.

Scoot Renames Its Economy Plus-Style Product

Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary, announced it is renaming its enhanced economy-class product. The airline said in a statement that ScootBiz will be renamed as ScootPlus to “better reflect the product customers will experience on board,” which includes leather seats with at least 38 inches of pitch, a choice of meal and beverage, and priority boarding. The change will take effect on September 2 and will be marketed as a “fuss-free, upsized Scoot experience, equivalent to a premium economy product.”

Southwest Airlines to Cut 17 Routes

Southwest Airlines will cut 17 routes in January to free up aircraft for flights with stronger demand, including its new services between California and Hawaii. “We are always evaluating our service patterns and performance to ensure that we are offering the right number of seats for the community based on demand from travelers,” said Dan Landson, Southwest’s communication lead.

LOT Signs Up to Support Polish Reforestation Initiative

LOT Polish Airlines announced its support for a new tree-planting initiative run by the government of Poland. The program will cover 12,000 hectares of land across 23 sites planted with fast-growing tree species, which will absorb a combined total of one million tons of carbon dioxide in a period of 30 years. Globally, flying produced 895 million tons of CO2 in 2018, according to the Air Transport Action Group.

It took five years, more than 180 flight hours and rigorous tests aboard Honeywell Aerospace’s Boeing 757 testbed aircraft before its JetWave hardware was launched as part of Inmarsat’s GX Aviation with the Lufthansa Group in May 2017.
